Summer House is a small, therapeutic children’s home where we provide a nurturing, family-style environment for young people who may have experienced trauma, disrupted attachments and difficult experiences earlier in life. Our approach combines trauma-informed and attachment-based care, with relationships at the centre of everything we do.
We're looking for an experienced, compassionate and confident Deputy Manager to work closely alongside our Registered Manager and help lead the team at Summer House. You'll play an important role in maintaining high standards across the home, supporting and developing the staff team and ensuring that the care we provide remains safe, consistent and centred around each young person.
What you'll be doing:
As Deputy Manager, you'll support the Registered Manager with the day-to-day running of Summer House and provide leadership and guidance to the wider staff team.
Your role will include:
- Supporting the Registered Manager with the safe and effective day-to-day running of the home.
- Leading shifts and ensuring young people receive safe, consistent and high-quality care.
- Deputising for the Registered Manager when required.
- Promoting a positive, child-centred and therapeutic culture throughout the home.
- Ensuring care is delivered in line with each young person's individual care plans, placement plans and risk assessments.
- Supporting and overseeing safeguarding practice and ensuring concerns are identified, recorded and escalated appropriately.
- Reviewing incidents and supporting staff to reflect on triggers, patterns and learning.
- Completing staff supervisions and supporting the ongoing development of the team.
- Liaising professionally with social workers, families, education providers, therapists and other professionals.
- Supporting the Registered Manager in maintaining compliance with the Children's Homes Regulations and Quality Standards.
- Remaining actively involved in direct care and building positive relationships with the young people living at Summer House.
Our therapeutic approach:
We recognise that behaviour is often a form of communication. Our practice is built around attachment-based and trauma-informed principles and the PACE approach.
As Deputy Manager, you'll help ensure this approach is embedded throughout the staff team, supporting colleagues to remain calm, curious and reflective even when situations are challenging.
Summer House also works alongside a private therapeutic service, providing specialist input, consultation and reflective practice to help our team understand the young people we care for.
What we're looking for:
We're interested in someone who is:
- Experienced within children's residential care.
- Confident leading and supporting a residential childcare team.
- Calm and able to make appropriate decisions when situations become challenging.
- Able to lead by example and maintain high standards of practice.
- Knowledgeable about safeguarding and child protection.
- Able to understand and oversee care plans, risk assessments and behaviour support plans.
- Confident completing staff supervision and supporting staff development.
- Able to communicate professionally with social workers, families and other professionals.
- Committed to trauma-informed, attachment-based and child-centred care.
Previous experience as a Senior Residential Childcare Worker, Team Leader or Deputy Manager within a children's residential setting is highly desirable.
A Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare (England), or recognised equivalent, is required.
A relevant Level 5 qualification in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare would be advantageous, or you should be willing to work towards the appropriate management qualification.
A full UK driving licence is desirable.

Pay: £42,000.00-£45,000.00 per year
