About the Role
As a Trainee Estimator, you'll learn how to prepare accurate cost estimates for structural steel projects, working closely with our estimating, design, and project teams. You'll gain hands-on experience interpreting drawings, reviewing project specifications, and assisting in the preparation of competitive quotations.
Key Responsibilities
- Assisting with the preparation of estimates and quotations for structural steel projects.
- Reviewing architectural and engineering drawings.
- Performing quantity take-offs and material calculations.
- Liaising with suppliers to obtain material and subcontractor pricing.
- Supporting the estimating team with tender submissions.
- Maintaining accurate project and pricing records.
- Learning industry standards, fabrication processes, and construction methods.
About You
We're looking for someone who is/has:
- Eager to learn and develop a career in estimating.
- Numerate with good attention to detail.
- Organised and able to manage multiple tasks.
- A confident communicator with good IT skills.
- Able to work both independently and as part of a team.
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths at C/4 or above.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Previous experience in construction, engineering, manufacturing, or reading technical drawings is beneficial but not essential.
