Foundry Operative
Days – 06:00–16:00 Monday to Thursday
Initial training hours will be confirmed on appointment.
Once fully trained, the role will move to a rotating shift pattern of 06:00–14:00 and 14:00–22:00. Employees may be required to work alternative shift patterns in line with business requirements.
The Foundry Operative will work closely with the Foundry Team Leader and other members of the Foundry team, as well as colleagues across Production, Quality, Engineering and Maintenance. The role will also involve working with other departments involved in the investment casting process to ensure castings are produced safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards.
Tritech Group are manufacturing experts and suppliers of precision products to global Aerospace & Defence industry giants. To support our continued growth, we are recruiting Foundry Operatives to join our Wrexham manufacturing facility.
Reporting directly to the Foundry Team Leader, the Foundry Operative will support a range of activities involved in the production of precision investment castings. This is a hands-on role working within a busy foundry environment, where duties may include metal melting and pouring, handling and removing castings from moulds, fettling and dressing castings, moving materials and maintaining a clean and safe working environment.
(The employee will willingly undertake, upon request, any other task they are able to perform. Elements of the role may vary as new technology, procedures and equipment are introduced.)
- Support the melting and pouring process, including preparing materials and safely pouring molten metal into ladles or moulds following established procedures.
- Assist with the removal of castings from moulds, ensuring components are handled safely and without damage.
- Carry out fettling and dressing activities to remove excess material and prepare castings for the next stage of production.
- Remove runners, risers, sprues and other unwanted material from castings using appropriate hand tools, hammers, grinders and other equipment following training.
- Operate and use hand tools and powered equipment safely and correctly following relevant procedures.
- Move and handle sand, castings, moulds and other foundry materials using appropriate manual handling techniques, trolleys, wheelbarrows or other equipment.
- Stack and organise completed castings and materials in the designated areas, ensuring components are handled correctly and remain identifiable.
- Carry out basic visual quality checks on castings, identifying obvious defects or issues and reporting them to the Team Leader.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping and cleanliness throughout the Foundry, including cleaning equipment, workstations and surrounding areas.
- Follow all relevant Health & Safety procedures, risk assessments, safe systems of work and PPE requirements within the Foundry.
- Report any equipment faults, safety concerns, quality issues or process abnormalities promptly to the Foundry Team Leader.
- Work to agreed production targets and schedules, maintaining the required standards of quality, safety and productivity.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues within the Foundry and other departments to ensure castings move efficiently through the manufacturing process.
- Complete relevant production records and documentation as required.
- Participate in training and competency assessments to develop knowledge and skills across the Foundry.
- Support continuous improvement activities, contributing ideas and feedback to improve safety, quality and efficiency.
- Be flexible and willing to support other areas of the Foundry where trained and competent to do so.

- · No specific foundry qualification is required as full training will be provided.
- · Good standard of general education.
- · Willingness to complete all required internal training and competency assessments.
- · Level 2/3 qualification in Engineering, Manufacturing or a related subject.
- · Previous Health & Safety training.
- · Relevant foundry, fabrication or metalworking qualifications.
- · Previous experience in a manufacturing, production, heavy industrial or manual working environment is desirable but not essential.
- · Experience working in a hot, physically demanding or industrial environment is advantageous.
- · Experience using hand tools or powered equipment is desirable.
- · Experience working to production targets and procedures.
- · Experience working within a Health & Safety-focused environment.
- · Full training will be provided for candidates who demonstrate the right attitude, reliability and willingness to learn. Previous foundry or metal casting experience is advantageous but not essential.
