ROLE OVERVIEW
As a Production Operative you will play a key role in ensuring our food products consistently meet the highest quality and compliance standards within a BRCGS Food Safety Issue 9 certified environment. You will be responsible for the safe operation of production machinery, completion of compliance documentation, maintenance of GMP standards, and active participation in continual improvement activities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Production & Machinery Operation
- Operate and monitor production machinery, including metal detectors and CCP control points, ensuring efficient and compliant running at all times.
- Identify deviations on the production line and take immediate corrective action to maintain volume and quality targets.
- Make controlled machine adjustments to rectify product or process errors in line with approved procedures.
- Ensure machinery is running efficiently to minimise material waste and maximise Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
Quality & Food Safety Compliance
- Carry out in-process quality assessments and determine whether product meets agreed customer and internal specification.
- Perform weight and measure checks accurately, recording results in accordance with customer specification and BRCGS clause requirements.
- Complete all compliance records accurately and in a timely manner, including HACCP monitoring sheets, CCP checks, metal detector logs, and weight control records.
- Report any food safety, quality, or process concerns promptly to the shift supervisor and escalate in line with site procedures.
- Apply GMP principles at all times, including appropriate personal hygiene, PPE usage, and allergen awareness procedures.
Housekeeping & Health and Safety
- Maintain the highest standard of housekeeping at all times in line with BRCGS Standards and site GMP requirements.
- Follow all health and safety protocols, site rules, and safe working procedures, including risk assessments and method statements.
- Participate in cleaning schedules (including deep cleans) and environmental monitoring programmes as required.
- Report near misses, accidents, and unsafe conditions promptly using the site reporting system.
Continuous Improvement & Teamwork
- Work effectively as a team member, supporting colleagues and contributing to a positive, collaborative site culture.
- Contribute to continual improvement initiatives focused on production efficiency, quality, and health and safety performance.
- Apply structured problem-solving techniques and make necessary process adjustments to prevent recurrence of issues.
- Record production data accurately and provide clear, timely updates to your supervisor.
- Assist with warehouse and production-related tasks as required to support overall site operations.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a food manufacturing or food production environment.
- Demonstrable knowledge of food safety standards, GMP, and HACCP principles.
- Experience of working in a BRCGS-accredited site or equivalent food safety standard environment.
- Ability to complete compliance paperwork accurately and consistently.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify and respond to deviations.
- Ability to work at pace in a fast-moving environment and manage repetitive tasks to a consistently high standard.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Right to work in the United Kingdom (required).
- Ability to reliably commute to Liverpool L36 6AJ or willingness to relocate before start date.
Desirable
- Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering (or equivalent Food Hygiene Certificate) if not training will be available on induction.
- Familiarity with allergen management procedures and labelling requirements.
- Experience in CCP monitoring.
- Material handling qualification.
