Due to continued growth, we are looking for an experienced and motivated Transport Operator to join our expanding operations team.
The Role
As a Transport Operator, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of our transport operation. You'll be responsible for planning vehicle movements, communicating with drivers and customers, and ensuring deliveries are completed safely, efficiently, and on time.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and schedule daily transport operations.
- Allocate work to employed drivers and subcontractors. Source additional work and backloads through Courier Exchange where appropriate.
- Monitor vehicle movements using tracking systems.
- Maintain regular communication with drivers throughout the day.
- Liaise with customers regarding collections, deliveries, and service updates.
- Respond quickly to operational issues and implement effective solutions.
- Ensure compliance with Driver Hours, Working Time Directive, and transport legislation.
- Complete transport documentation accurately.
- Build strong relationships with customers, drivers, and suppliers.
- Support the Operations Manager with daily operational planning.
- Ensure excellent customer service at all times.
- Assist with route optimization to maximize efficiency and reduce operational costs.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Previous experience working as a Transport Operator, Transport Planner, Traffic Operator, or in a similar transport operations role.
- Working knowledge of Courier Exchange, including posting work, accepting jobs, managing live loads, and communicating effectively through the platform.
- Excellent geographical knowledge of London, Heathrow, and the UK road network.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize workloads.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
- A proactive attitude with strong problem-solving ability.
- Full UK driving licence (preferred).
