Role Overview
We are looking for a Senior Mobile App QA Tester to lead quality assurance efforts across native iOS and Android applications for a UK government client. You will be responsible for designing and executing comprehensive test strategies that ensure mobile applications meet the highest standards of quality, accessibility, and security.
This is a hands-on, delivery-focused role operating within structured and governed environments where reliability, usability, and compliance are critical to service success.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and execute test plans, test cases, and test scripts for native iOS and Android applications
Perform functional, regression, integration, usability, and exploratory testing across mobile platforms
Validate mobile applications against WCAG 2.2 accessibility standards using assistive technologies (VoiceOver, TalkBack)
Identify, document, and track defects with clear reproduction steps and technical evidence
Develop and maintain automated test suites for mobile applications where appropriate
Test across a range of devices, OS versions, screen sizes, and network conditions
Validate API integrations and end-to-end data flows between mobile clients and backend services
Collaborate closely with iOS and Android developers, UX designers, and product owners to ensure quality throughout the delivery lifecycle
Contribute to test completion reports, defect triage sessions, and go/no-go release decisions
Support CI/CD pipeline integration for automated test execution
Essential Skills & Experience
Strong experience in mobile application testing across both iOS and Android platforms
Hands-on experience with mobile testing tools such as XCTest, Espresso, Appium, Detox, or equivalent
Solid understanding of mobile-specific testing considerations including device fragmentation, OS version compatibility, and network variability
Experience with API testing tools (e.g. Postman, REST Assured, SoapUI)
Proficiency in writing clear, structured test plans, test cases, and defect reports
Familiarity with accessibility testing tools and standards (WCAG 2.2, VoiceOver, TalkBack, Accessibility Inspector)
Experience with defect management and test management tools (e.g. Jira, Zephyr, TestRail, Azure DevOps)
Experience working in Agile or hybrid delivery models (Scrum, Kanban)
Experience working in regulated, security-conscious, or high-assurance environments
Desirable
Experience testing mobile applications within a UK public-sector or government context
Familiarity with GDS service standards, the Technology Code of Practice, and the GOV.UK Design System
Experience with mobile test automation frameworks and CI/CD integration (e.g. Fastlane, Xcode Cloud, GitHub Actions)
Understanding of mobile performance testing and profiling tools
Experience with security testing for mobile applications (e.g. OWASP Mobile Testing Guide)
Experience with mobile device management (MDM) and enterprise app distribution testing
Scope & Accountability
Responsible for hands-on mobile test design, execution, and defect management
Owns the quality and accuracy of assigned test artefacts, results, and defect documentation
Contributes analysis and quality recommendations but does not hold final assurance authority
Accountable for timely delivery of agreed testing activities within sprint cycles
