Job summary
We are recruiting an experienced Registered Manager to lead an established 3-bedded children’s home in a rural setting near Axbridge, Somerset. You’ll have overall responsibility for the day-to-day running of the home, ensuring consistently high standards of care, safeguarding, and regulatory compliance.
This is a hands-on leadership role, managing a team of approximately 6 staff, embedding a positive culture, and driving strong outcomes for young people. You’ll be confident working to Children’s Homes Regulations and Ofsted expectations, with a clear, organised approach to quality, documentation, and operational delivery.
Key responsibilities
- Provide overall leadership and management of a 3-bed children’s home (EBD)
- Lead, supervise, develop and performance-manage a staff team (c. 6)
- Ensure full compliance with Children’s Homes legislation, safeguarding standards and Ofsted requirements
- Maintain robust child protection and safeguarding practice across the service
- Oversee care planning, reports, audits and documentation, meeting deadlines and quality standards
- Build effective relationships with external professionals, agencies and stakeholders
- Promote a safe, stable, nurturing environment where young people’s views and needs are central
- Participate in an on-call rota (approximately twice per month)
Required qualifications and experience
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in residential childcare within the last 5 years
- At least 1 year’s experience supervising/managing staff in a care setting
- QCF Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management (Children & Young People) (or equivalent)
- QCF Level 3 Diploma in Children and Young People Workforce (or equivalent)
- Strong working knowledge of Ofsted inspection frameworks and expectations
- Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
- Full UK driving licence (manual) and access to your own car with business insurance
- Ability to take part in on-call duties
Preferred / nice-to-have skills
- Experience leading services supporting young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD)
- Confident communicator with external partners and stakeholders
- Resilient, solution-focused leadership style and strong organisational skills
