To lead the next phase of our evolution, we are making a key strategic appointment: a Group Operations & Business Development Director to drive operational excellence, power business expansion, and lead post-acquisition integration across the Group.
The Opportunity
As a commercially astute and operationally driven leader, you will play a pivotal role in aligning our practices into a unified, high-performing powerhouse.
This role uniquely combines strategic leadership, business development, operational delivery, and organisational integration. You will work closely with our executive leadership to build scalable systems, foster a collaborative culture across locations, and unlock new growth opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Executive Leadership
- Provide strategic oversight for the Civil & Structural practice, offering regular leadership support to Geotechnical teams.
- Develop and implement operational strategies to enhance service delivery, profitability, and resource utilisation.
- Establish key performance indicators (KPIs), reporting frameworks, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Build a high-performance, collaborative culture across our Wigan and Uxbridge offices.
Business Development & Market Expansion
- Shape and execute the Group’s over-arching growth strategy across public and private sectors.
- Secure high-value business, strengthen relationships with key clients, developers, and contractors, and lead major framework pursuits.
- Capitalise on cross-selling opportunities across the Group to build market share and bolster brand presence.
Integration & Commercial Management
- Lead post-acquisition integration, harmonising operating models, systems, commercial practices, and organisational culture.
- Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance to ensure sustainable growth and margin expansion.
- Identify and manage key commercial risks and opportunities.
What We’re Looking For
Essential Experience & Skills:
- Proven Track Record: Senior leadership experience within the construction/engineering sector driving measurable growth and operational improvement.
- Commercial & Growth Focus: Strong P&L accountability, budget management expertise, and demonstrated success in business development and client acquisition.
- People & Integration Skills: Ability to inspire teams, navigate organisational change, and align disparate business units.
Desirable:
- Technical background in Civil, Structural, or Geotechnical Engineering.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or equivalent professional qualification.
- Leadership background within an engineering consultancy.
- Direct experience in M&A or post-acquisition integration programmes.
