Role Summary
We are seeking a compassionate, reliable and experienced Night Waking Home Care Assistant to support an elderly lady in her own home for approximately four to six weeks.
This is a waking-night role, meaning the care assistant must remain awake, alert and available throughout the entire shift. The successful candidate will provide reassurance, companionship and practical care while monitoring the client’s safety and wellbeing overnight.
The role is intended to enable the client to remain safe and comfortable in familiar surroundings while providing reassurance to her family.
Main Responsibilities
The Night Waking Home Care Assistant will be responsible for:
- Remaining awake and attentive throughout the full overnight shift.
- Monitoring the client’s general wellbeing, comfort and safety.
- Providing reassurance and companionship when the client is awake, unsettled or anxious.
- Assisting the client to use the toilet or commode during the night.
- Supporting with continence care, including changing continence products where required.
- Providing personal care respectfully and in accordance with the client’s care plan.
- Assisting with repositioning and pressure-area care where outlined in the care plan.
- Supporting safe movement and transfers using the agreed equipment and techniques.

- Recording all care provided, observations, medication support, food and fluid intake, continence care and relevant incidents accurately.
- Reporting any concerns, deterioration, falls, injuries or changes in the client’s condition to the appropriate person without delay.
- Contacting the on-call manager, family members or emergency services when required.
- Providing a clear handover to the family member or care worker taking over in the morning.
- Maintaining the client’s dignity, privacy, independence and personal choices at all times.
