Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled Construction Surveyor / Draughtsman to join our team. This dual-role position involves conducting accurate site surveys and producing precise technical drawings to support construction and engineering projects. The role focuses on surveying steel-framed buildings in preparation for secondary steel installations such as staircases, handrails, cat ladders, and dock stairs.
The successful candidate will attend site to capture accurate measurements, produce General Arrangement (GA) drawings for client approval, and, upon approval, develop detailed fabrication drawings for manufacture and installation.
Responsibilities
Surveying Duties:
- Attend site visits to survey steel-framed buildings prior to installation of secondary steel components.
- Take precise measurements of structural steelwork, connection points, masonry & concreate staircase, installation areas.
- Assess site conditions to ensure compatibility with proposed staircases, handrails, ladders, and access systems.
- Use surveying tools (e.g., laser measures, total stations) to collect accurate data.
- Identify and report any discrepancies between design drawings and actual site conditions.
Draughting & Design Duties:
- Produce General Arrangement (GA) drawings for staircases, handrails, cat ladders, dock stairs, and other secondary steel elements.
- Submit GA drawings to clients for review and approval.
- Work with structural engineers to create compliant detailed structures.
- Amend drawings in line with client comments and site requirements.
- Generate detailed fabrication drawings, including dimensions, materials, and connection details, following GA approval.
- Create clear and accurate 2D/3D CAD drawings suitable for workshop fabrication and on-site installation.
- Maintain drawing registers, revisions, and documentation.
Requirements
Education & Qualifications:
- Diploma or degree in Surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction, or a related field.
- CAD certification or equivalent experience (preferred).
Experience:
- Proven experience in surveying and draughting within the construction or steelwork industry.
- Experience with secondary steelwork such as staircases, handrails, ladders, or similar structures.
- Experience producing GA and fabrication drawings.
Skills:
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, or similar).
- Strong understanding of steel structures and fabrication processes.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to interpret structural drawings and site conditions.
- Good communication skills for client interaction and team collaboration.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.

Pay: £35,420.00-£48,563.69 per year
