I’m currently recruiting for a Machine Operator to join an established print manufacturer in Thame.
We’re looking for someone who already has a background within lithographic print, but you don’t necessarily need previous platen experience.
If you understand the litho print environment, have experience working around production machinery and are keen to learn, the company is happy to train you on their platen equipment. Equally, if you're already an experienced Platen Operator, they can offer a salary towards the top end of the range.
The Role
You’ll be working within a busy print production environment, initially learning the machinery and processes before developing into a fully skilled operator.
Responsibilities will include:
- Setting up and operating print finishing machinery
- Working across cutting, creasing, embossing and debossing
- Monitoring machinery and making adjustments throughout production
- Reading job tickets, specifications and production instructions
- Carrying out quality checks and ensuring work meets the required standards
- Performing routine machine checks and basic troubleshooting
- Minimising waste and downtime
- Working closely with the wider print and production teams
- Maintaining a clean and safe working environment
The business specialises in UV litho print, producing products including greetings cards, luxury packaging, cartons and rigid boxes, alongside specialist finishes including foiling, varnishing, embossing, die-cutting and gluing.
What We're Looking For
Previous experience within a lithographic print environment is essential.
You could already be an experienced Platen Operator, or you might currently be working elsewhere within litho production and looking for the opportunity to learn another skill.
Ideally you'll have:
- Previous litho print / print production experience
- Experience operating production machinery
- Good mechanical aptitude
- Strong attention to detail and quality
- Ability to follow job specifications accurately
- A reliable and committed approach
- Willingness to learn new machinery and processes
Previous platen, die-cutting, cutting, creasing or embossing experience would be a big advantage, but isn't essential as training can be provided. The original brief specifically identifies platen or similar print-finishing experience as desirable.
Salary & Hours
£14.00 – £19.00 per hour, depending on your existing experience.
Someone coming from a litho background who requires platen training would likely start towards the lower end, while an experienced Platen Operator could command towards £19.00 per hour.
The role works a rotating 40-hour week:
6:00am – 2:00pm Monday to Friday
2:00pm – midnight Monday to Thursday
There is also on-site parking.
