Flexible Working
We will consider applications for employment on a part-time or other flexible working basis (e.g. job share), despite the position being advertised as full-time.
As an Engineering Technician within the Energy Innovation Centre (EIC) at WMG, you will support the delivery of a wide range of research, teaching and industry-focused projects across laboratory and workshop environments. You will play a key role in ensuring facilities, equipment and experimental activities are operated safely, efficiently and to a high technical standard.
Working closely with academics, researchers, students and external partners, you will provide hands-on technical expertise to support the setup, operation, maintenance and continuous improvement of equipment and systems. You will contribute to the successful delivery of project objectives within the EIC, supporting activities aligned to electrification, energy storage and advanced manufacturing.
In addition to core technical responsibilities, you will bring specialist expertise in battery materials processing and controlled environments. You will support the operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of inert atmosphere equipment, ensuring environmental conditions are maintained for sensitive processes and supporting safe handling of materials and gases within these systems.
This is an opportunity to work within a state-of-the-art facility, contributing to cutting-edge innovation in energy technologies while supporting both research excellence and student development.

About You
You will be a skilled and hands-on engineering professional, ideally having completed an Engineering Apprenticeship or holding an equivalent technical qualification. You will have experience working in a relevant engineering, laboratory or workshop environment, with strong practical capability across a range of equipment, tools and processes.
You will be confident operating, maintaining and troubleshooting technical systems, and able to interpret technical drawings, procedures and documentation to support a variety of engineering activities. Your technical judgement will enable you to make effective, practical decisions when supporting research, teaching and project delivery.
You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, allowing you to work effectively with academics, researchers, students, external partners and other stakeholders within a multidisciplinary environment.
You will be comfortable working both independently and as part of a team, managing multiple tasks and adapting to changing priorities in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.
A strong awareness of health and safety is essential, and you will be confident working within established procedures, contributing to risk assessments and ensuring safe systems of work are followed at all times.
You will also have experience working with controlled environments or specialist laboratory equipment, with an understanding of maintaining safe and stable operating conditions. Experience supporting the handling of sensitive materials or gas systems would be advantageous.
