Assistant Project Manager
Location: Exeter (Field-Based)
Salary: £37,000 - £45,000 + Bonus + Excellent Benefits
Construo Recruitment is working in partnership with a major infrastructure and utilities organisation to recruit an Assistant Project Manager based in Exeter. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious construction, civil engineering, water, or utilities professional looking to progress their career in project management. The Role
As Assistant Project Manager, you will support the delivery of multiple engineering and infrastructure projects across the South West region. Working closely with Project Managers, operational teams, contractors, and stakeholders, you will help ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and within programme. This is a field-based role requiring regular travel to sites and offers hands-on experience across a variety of technical disciplines, project environments, and operational challenges.
Key Responsibilities
Supporting the delivery of planned and reactive engineering projects
Coordinating contractors, suppliers, site teams, and key stakeholders
Assisting with project mobilisation, planning, and resource allocation
Monitoring project programmes, costs, quality, and performance
Tracking project progress and identifying potential risks or delays
Supporting emergency and reactive works when required
Assisting with project reporting, documentation, and handovers
Ensuring health, safety, and environmental standards are maintained
Supporting cost management and budget tracking activities
Helping drive successful project completion and operational handover
About You
We are keen to speak with candidates who have experience within construction, civil engineering, water, utilities, or related infrastructure sectors.
You will ideally possess:
Experience within construction, engineering, utilities, or water environments
Strong organisational and communication skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities within a fast-paced environment
Proactive and solutions-focused approach
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities
Good understanding of health and safety requirements
Competency in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, and Outlook
Full UK Driving Licence and willingness to travel regularly
Desirable
Experience supporting project delivery or project coordination activities
Exposure to budget management and cost tracking
HNC, HND, Degree, or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline
Working towards or holding APM, PRINCE2, or similar project management qualifications
Knowledge of one or more of the following:
Civil Engineering
Mechanical or Electrical Systems
Instrumentation, Control & Automation
Water or Wastewater Operations
Process Engineering
