Experienced Aluminium TIG Welder / Fabricator – Brass & Non-Ferrous Metalwork
£20–£24 per hour | Full-time | Henham, Essex CM22 6BG
We are looking for an experienced Aluminium TIG Welder / Fabricator to join our small, skilled team in Little Hadham, specialising in the fabrication of high-quality aluminium and brass picture frames for the art industry.
This is not a general structural or production welding role. Our work is bespoke, highly precise and requires an exceptional level of finish. Welded joints are subsequently ground and polished, so weld quality, accuracy and control of porosity and distortion are critical.
We are looking for someone with strong, recent AC TIG aluminium experience who can confidently set up their own machine, solve welding problems and produce consistently high-quality work.
Key Responsibilities
- Precision TIG welding of aluminium and brass components
- Preparing, fitting and welding accurate mitred frame corners
- Setting up and adjusting TIG equipment independently
- Controlling heat input and distortion
- Diagnosing and preventing porosity and contamination
- Producing sound welds suitable for subsequent grinding and polishing
- Fabricating accurately from drawings, measurements and samples
- Cutting, preparing and fitting components accurately
- Grinding, linishing and preparing welded joints for final finishing
- Working carefully with high-value and finished surfaces
- Maintaining consistently high standards across bespoke and small-batch work
What We're Looking For
- Minimum 3 years' recent professional TIG welding experience
- Strong AC TIG aluminium experience – essential
- Experience welding brass, copper alloys or other non-ferrous metals is highly desirable
- Able to set up and adjust TIG equipment independently
- Strong precision fabrication and accurate fit-up skills
- Good understanding of heat and distortion control
- Experience producing welds for grinding and polishing
- Excellent attention to detail
- Patient, methodical and self-motivated
- Comfortable working independently within a small team
- Pride in producing work to an exceptionally high standard
Experience in high-end architectural metalwork, art fabrication, aerospace, motorsport, marine or other precision fabrication would be particularly relevant.
Welding Qualifications
A current BS EN ISO 9606-2 aluminium TIG qualification (process 141) is desirable but not essential.
BS EN ISO 9606-3 copper-alloy qualification would also be advantageous.
Practical ability and the quality of your work are more important to us than certification alone.
Paid Practical Test
Shortlisted candidates will complete a paid practical weld test using aluminium and brass components representative of our work.
We will assess preparation and fit-up, welding quality, distortion control, accuracy and the quality of the weld after grinding and polishing.
