Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Mechanical Maintenance Technician to join our Anaerobic Digestion (AD) facility team. This is a hands-on role responsible for maintaining, repairing, overhauling, and improving a wide range of mechanical plant and process equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient facility operation.
The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering planned preventative maintenance, responding to equipment breakdowns, diagnosing faults, and implementing effective repairs to maximise plant availability and performance.
Responsibilities
Plant Maintenance
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance activities on mechanical plant and equipment.
- Inspect, service, repair, and overhaul pumps, motors, gearboxes, agitators, conveyors, and associated process equipment.
- Undertake equipment rebuilds and component replacements to maintain asset integrity and operational performance.
- Accurately complete maintenance records and documentation in line with company procedures.
Fault Diagnosis & Repair
- Diagnose and rectify mechanical, hydraulic, and operational equipment faults.
- Investigate equipment failures, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
- Respond promptly to plant breakdowns and emergency situations to restore operational capability.
- Escalate significant operational, reliability, or safety concerns when required.
Feedstock & Process Equipment
- Maintain and repair feedstock handling systems, including hydraulic walking floors, screw feeders, and associated hydraulic equipment.
- Support operational continuity by ensuring critical process systems remain reliable and available.
- Assist with plant modifications, equipment installation, commissioning, and improvement projects.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Work safely at all times in accordance with company health, safety, environmental, and site procedures.
- Conduct dynamic risk assessments and ensure appropriate control measures are in place before and during maintenance activities.
- Operate within permit-to-work systems, risk assessments, and method statements.
- Stop work and report concerns where unsafe conditions are identified.
- Identify and report hazards, near misses, and unsafe practices.
- Contribute to maintaining compliance with statutory regulations and site safety standards.
Continuous Improvement
- Support maintenance and reliability improvement initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to reduce maintenance costs, improve equipment performance, and extend asset life.
- Assist with shutdown planning and execution activities.
Experience
You will be a proactive maintenance professional with strong mechanical fault-finding skills and experience working within an industrial or process plant environment.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Mechanical maintenance experience within an industrial, manufacturing, process, energy, waste, recycling, or similar environment.
- Strong knowledge of pumps, motors, gearboxes, conveyors, rotating equipment, and hydraulic systems.
- Proven fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
- Experience carrying out both planned and reactive maintenance activities.
- Understanding of health and safety requirements, permit-to-work systems, and risk assessments.
- Ability to work independently and prioritise workload effectively.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
Desirable
- Experience within an Anaerobic Digestion, biogas, waste processing, wastewater, energy-from-waste, or process plant environment.
- Mechanical apprenticeship, NVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent engineering qualification.
- Experience with CMMS or maintenance management systems.
- Welding, fabrication, or hydraulic maintenance experience.
