Job Title: Delivery & Collection Driver
Department: Operations
Reporting To: Transport Manager / Operations Manager
Location: Ilford, Essex (with travel throughout London and the UK)
Employment Type: Full-Time / Part-Time
Job Purpose
The Delivery & Collection Driver is responsible for the safe, professional and timely delivery and collection of rental vehicles to customers throughout the UK. Drivers represent the company at all times and are expected to provide excellent customer service while ensuring every vehicle is inspected, documented and handed over in accordance with company procedures.
Key ResponsibilitiesVehicle Deliveries
- Deliver rental vehicles safely and on time to customers' homes, businesses and commercial sites.
- Complete full vehicle handovers with customers.
- Explain vehicle controls and features where required.
- Ensure all rental documentation has been completed before releasing a vehicle.
- Obtain customer signatures electronically or on paper.
- Take comprehensive pre-delivery photographs and videos of the vehicle.
- Record fuel level, mileage and vehicle condition accurately.
Vehicle Collections
- Collect rental vehicles from customers at the agreed time and location.
- Carry out a full vehicle inspection before accepting the vehicle back.
- Photograph and record any new damage.
- Check fuel level against the rental agreement.
- Record mileage.
- Check cleanliness of the vehicle.
- Report any missing accessories immediately.
- Ensure keys and documentation are returned to the office.
Vehicle Inspections
Carry out thorough inspections including:
- Bodywork
- Wheels and tyres
- Windscreen and windows
- Lights
- Mirrors
- Interior cleanliness
- Dashboard warning lights
- Fuel level
- Mileage
- Spare wheel (where applicable)
- Tool kit
- Parcel shelf/load covers
- Charging cables (EVs)
- Accessories supplied with vehicle
Any defects must be reported immediately.
Customer Service
Drivers are ambassadors for Dexter's Self Drive and must:
- Be polite and professional at all times.
- Wear company uniform where provided.
- Maintain a positive attitude.
- Resolve minor customer queries professionally.
- Report complaints immediately.
- Never argue with customers.
- Obtain customer signatures before leaving.
Vehicle Care
Drivers are responsible for ensuring vehicles remain in excellent condition by:
- Keeping vehicles clean.
- Reporting damage immediately.
- Reporting warning lights.
- Reporting punctures.
- Reporting breakdowns.
- Reporting mechanical faults.
- Checking fluid levels where required.
Daily Duties
Drivers may also be required to:
- Refuel vehicles.
- Wash and vacuum vehicles.
- Move vehicles between depots.
- Collect vehicles from dealerships.
- Deliver vehicles to repairers.
- Attend MOT appointments.
- Deliver vehicles to bodyshops.
- Collect new fleet vehicles.
- Install number plates where instructed.
- Complete daily vehicle check sheets.
Documentation
Drivers must accurately complete:
- Delivery reports
- Collection reports
- Damage reports
- Fuel reports
- Mileage records
- Incident reports
- Accident reports
- Daily driver sheets
Health & Safety
Drivers must:
- Hold a valid UK driving licence.
- Drive in accordance with the Highway Code.
- Follow all company policies.
- Conduct daily walkaround checks.
- Report any unsafe vehicles immediately.
- Never drive a vehicle considered unsafe.
- Comply with Working Time Regulations.
- Report accidents immediately.
Required Skills & ExperienceEssential
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Minimum 2 years' driving experience.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to use smartphones and vehicle inspection apps.
- Good geographical knowledge.
- Ability to work independently.
- Reliable and punctual.
- Professional appearance.
Desirable
- Experience in vehicle rental.
- Experience delivering fleet vehicles.
- Knowledge of vehicle inspections.
- Experience driving vans, minibuses and commercial vehicles.

Working Hours
- Monday to Sunday on a rota basis.
- Early morning, evenings and weekend work may be required.
- Overtime may be available during busy periods.

- Occasional lifting of vehicle accessories or equipment.
