Deputy Nursery Manager
Location: Rocking Horse Montessori Nursery

Salary: starting from £ 15.76 to £16.33 ph according to qualification
About the Role
We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Deputy Nursery Manager to support the Nursery Manager in leading our friendly and dedicated team.
This is a hands-on leadership role, where you will spend time working directly with children in the nursery room, supporting their learning, development and wellbeing, while also taking responsibility for supporting the wider nursery operation.
You will help ensure the highest standards of care, education and safeguarding, creating a nurturing environment where children can learn, grow and thrive. You will also act as Manager in the Manager's absence.
ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities
- Support the Nursery Manager with the day-to-day running of the nursery.
- Work directly with children as part of the nursery team, supporting their learning, development and daily care.
- Lead, motivate and mentor staff to deliver high-quality care and education.
- Ensure the nursery operates in accordance with the EYFS Statutory Framework, Ofsted requirements and nursery policies.
- Promote a strong safeguarding culture and ensure all safeguarding and child protection procedures are followed.
- Support recruitment, induction, supervision, appraisals and professional development of staff.
- Monitor the quality of teaching, learning and assessment across the nursery.
- Ensure planning, observations and assessments support children's individual learning and development.
- Work closely with the SENCO, parents and external professionals to support children with additional needs.
- Build positive partnerships with parents, carers and other professionals.
- Oversee children's records, learning journeys and statutory documentation.
- Support occupancy, admissions and children's settling-in procedures.
- Ensure high standards of health, safety, hygiene and risk assessment throughout the nursery.
- Monitor staff deployment to ensure legal staff-to-child ratios are maintained.
- Contribute to self-evaluation, quality improvement plans and preparation for Ofsted inspections.
- Promote equality, diversity, inclusion and Fundamental British Values throughout the nursery.
- Support a positive team culture and encourage reflective practice.
- DDSL/ First Aider
- Act as the designated person in charge in the absence of the Nursery Manage
Essential Requirements
- Level 3 Early Years qualification recognised by the DfE (minimum).
- Experience working in an early years setting, with previous leadership responsibility.
- Good knowledge of the EYFS Statutory Framework and safeguarding requirements.
- Excellent leadership, communication and organisational skills.
- A passion for working directly with children and supporting their development.
- Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
Desirable
- Level 5 qualification or above.
- Early Years Teacher Status (EYTS), Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or Early Years Professional Status (EYPS).
- Paediatric First Aid.
- Montessori experience or qualification.
- SEND experience or training.
