Automatic Gate Installer wanted in Norwich. Build a brand-new gates division from the ground up, and grow into leading it.
This is not a job where you bolt gates on for the next twenty years and stay exactly where you started. We are launching Hawthorne Gates, and we are looking for the person who installs the first ones, sets the standard, and grows into running the team. As the division grows, so does your role and your pay.
WHO WE ARE
Hawthorne is a commercial security and fire company based in Norwich, working across Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire. We install and maintain CCTV, intruder alarms, fire detection and access control for businesses and high-value homes. We are SSAIB and ISO accredited, and we do things properly. We turn up, we do the job right, and we stand behind our work. Automatic gates are our next step, and you would be at the start of it.
THE ROLE
You will install and commission automatic and electric gates and barriers at homes and commercial sites across the region. That means swing and sliding gate automation, controllers, safety edges, photocells and the safety testing that goes with them. Where a job needs access control tied in (intercoms, fobs, GSM entry), you will either handle it or work with the rest of the team who can. Quieter weeks may include helping the wider team with CCTV and other servicing, so any broader engineering experience is welcome.
You will also be close to the customer. When you see a gate opportunity at a site, or a homeowner wants to talk options, we want someone who can have that conversation, quote it and win the work. You will earn commission when you do.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- Real, hands-on experience installing automatic or electric gates.
- Driven. You want to build something and grow with it, not coast.
- Pride in safe, correct work. Gate safety is not a box to tick to you, it is the job.
- You can talk to customers and sell, or you have the confidence and appetite to learn fast.
- A full UK driving licence and a CSCS card.
- 18th Edition is a bonus, not a must. Gate Safe training we will provide.
- Any CCTV, access control or wider security experience is a real plus.

THE HONEST BIT
We are at the start of this. The gates work will build over the coming months, so in the early days you will mix gate installs with helping the wider team. If you want a finished, high-volume gates operation to walk into, this is not it. If you want to be the person who builds one, it is.
THE DETAILS
- Full time, permanent. 42.5 hours a week, Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm, with on-call and out-of-hours cover in line with the wider field team.
- Norwich based, with travel across Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire.
- Reporting to our Managing Director.
