Machine Shop Quality Inspector

We are recruiting a practical Machine Shop Quality Inspector for an established precision engineering manufacturer based at the Advanced Manufacturing Park in Rotherham.
The role involves inspecting precision-machined components against engineering drawings, dimensional requirements and customer specifications.
Strong manual inspection skills are required. Previous CMM experience would be beneficial but is not essential, as training can be provided.
Key responsibilities:
- Inspect machined components during production and at final inspection
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and dimensional tolerances
- Complete visual and dimensional inspection
- Use micrometers, verniers, gauges and other manual inspection equipment
- Verify components against drawings and specifications
- Accurately record inspection results
- Identify and communicate dimensional or quality concerns
- Support the control of non-conforming products
- Maintain clear inspection documentation and component traceability
- Use CMM equipment following training
- Handle high-value precision components carefully
- Work in accordance with quality, safety and environmental procedures
The successful candidate will have:
- Experience inspecting machined or precision-engineered components
- Strong manual inspection skills
- Confidence using micrometers, verniers and gauges
- The ability to read engineering drawings
- A sound understanding of dimensional tolerances
- An accurate, methodical and quality-focused approach
- The ability to maintain clear and auditable records
- Good communication skills and the confidence to work with production teams
CMM operating or programming experience would be advantageous, although it is not essential. Previous experience within oil and gas, subsea, aerospace or another regulated manufacturing environment would also be beneficial.
Hours:
- Monday to Thursday: 7:00am–4:00pm
- Friday: Minimum four hours from 7:00am
- 39-hour standard working week
- Flexibility to work additional hours Monday to Thursday and finish earlier on Friday
Pay and benefits:
- £16.72–£17.43 per hour, depending on experience and capability
- Overtime above 39 hours paid at 1.3 times the standard rate
- Saturday overtime paid at 1.5 times the standard rate
- Monthly profit-sharing bonus after the qualifying period
