Job Overview
Daytime cooking, seasonal menus and a strong team
Thyme is an independent, family-run restaurant at the heart of Warbreck Garden Centre.
We serve breakfast, brunch, lunch and afternoon tea, alongside private functions and special dining events. Our menus change with the seasons and regular specials give the kitchen team opportunities to work with different ingredients and introduce new ideas.
We have a loyal following and an established team. We use good ingredients, prepare food with care and take pride in maintaining high standards.
We are now looking for another Chef de Partie to join us.
The person we are looking for:
We care as much about how you work as what you can cook.
We are looking for someone dependable, positive and well organised. You should take responsibility for your section, communicate well and be willing to support the people around you.
Attention to detail is important, from preparation and organisation to portioning, presentation and cleanliness. You will be confident enough to take ownership of your work, but open to feedback and keen to keep improving.
We also value practical creativity. You should enjoy thinking about seasonal dishes and specials, with ideas that suit our customers and can be delivered consistently by the whole kitchen team.
You may already be working at Chef de Partie level, or you may be a strong Commis Chef ready to take the next step. Either way, you will need experience in a fresh-food kitchen and the ability to maintain pace, consistency and standards throughout service.
The role
Working alongside our Head Chef, Sous Chef and wider kitchen team, you will:
- Take responsibility for your own section
- Prepare and cook food to agreed recipes, portions and presentation standards
- Keep your section organised, clean and ready for service
- Support preparation and service across the kitchen when needed
- Contribute ideas for seasonally changing menus and regular specials
- Help prepare and deliver food for private functions and special dining events
- Maintain high standards of food hygiene and allergen control
Alongside the main kitchen duties, the chefs share responsibility for producing more of our cakes, traybakes, scones, seasonal bakes and afternoon tea items in-house.
Baking or pastry experience would be a definite advantage and a skill we would put to good use. This is not a dedicated baking position, however. A strong all-round chef and the right team mindset come first.
Hours
Thyme is a daytime restaurant, so there is no evening service and there are no split shifts.
We can offer between 30 and 40 hours a week, normally worked over four or five days depending on the contracted hours and agreed working pattern. Scheduled shifts finish by 5pm, with many finishing earlier.
Weekend availability will be required. We aim to provide two consecutive days off wherever possible.
What we offer
- £13.50 to £14.00 per hour, depending on experience
- Tronc in addition to your hourly pay
- A permanent contract of 30 to 40 hours a week
- Daytime shifts with no evenings or split shifts
- 5.6 weeks’ paid holiday
- Staff discount across Warbreck Garden Centre
- Free onsite parking
- The opportunity to contribute and develop within an independent business

Apply through Indeed with your CV. We would be interested to hear about your kitchen experience, the sections you are confident running and any experience you have with specials, seasonal dishes, baking or pastry.
