Job description:
We have a vacancy for a manual miller to set up and operate manual milling machines to produce precision components. The core of the role is machining parts to exact tolerances by reading engineering drawings, selecting tools, setting machine parameters, and inspecting finished work.
Main duties & responsibilities:
- Set up and operate manual milling machines to perform precision machining tasks, including cutting, shaping, drilling, and finishing metal components.
- Select and install appropriate tools, fixtures, and workpieces, adjusting machine settings such as speed, feed, and depth of cut.
- Understand and able to use Right Angled Heads, Boring Heads and machine angled holes
- Reading Engineering Drawings: Proficient in interpreting technical drawings for part production.
- Calculating Dimensions: Use mathematical skills and measuring instruments to determine dimensions and tolerances.
- Carry out inspection intermediate inspection using gauges and measuring instruments
- Promote and provide constant input into continuous improvement
- Attention to Detail: Maintain high tolerances and focus on health and safety.
- Comply with all policies, specifications and safety procedures
- Perform routine maintenance on machines, including cleaning, lubrication, and replacing worn cutting tools.
- Maintain accurate documentation related to work performed and production
Required Skills & Competencies:
- Strong manual machining skills and experience with manual milling equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and engineering documentation.
- Proficiency with precision measuring tools and inspection techniques.
- Good mechanical aptitude, problem solving skills, and attention to detail.
- Ability to identify and correct machining issues, including tool wear and machine faults.
- Understanding of health and safety standards in a machining environment.
Experience/Attributes Required:
- Relevant knowledge, training, and experience in a machine environment.
- Experience in precision engineering or aerospace machining
- Time-served qualifications such as ONC, NVQ, or equivalent Apprenticeships.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Self-motivation and the ability to work independently, as well as part of a team.
- Good physical fitness to meet the job's demands.
- A flexible and positive outlook.
- Ability to use lifting equipment (e.g., jib crane, forklift) may be desirable
