The Safety & Compliance Officer is responsible for promoting a culture of safety, compliance and continuous improvement across all company operations. The role provides expert support and guidance to managers and employees on Health & Safety, regulatory compliance, business systems and operational processes, ensuring the company meets its legal obligations and customer requirements.
Working closely with the Business Process and Safety Manager and operational teams, the postholder will conduct audits and investigations, develop safe systems of work, support compliance activities, administer key business systems, deliver training programmes and drive process improvement initiatives. The role acts as a key business partner, helping to improve operational performance, reduce risk and embed best practice across all sites.
Health, Safety & Compliance
· Conduct planned, unannounced and dynamic audits across all company sites to assess compliance with Health & Safety legislation, regulatory requirements, customer standards and company procedures.
· Present audit findings, recommendations and corrective actions to site management and directors in a professional and constructive manner.
· Carry out workplace inspections, risk assessments and compliance reviews, identifying hazards and implementing practical control measures.
· Investigate accidents, incidents, near misses and compliance breaches, undertaking root cause analysis and developing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
· Collaborate with department managers, site managers and employees to promote a positive culture of safety awareness, accountability and adherence to safety protocols.
· Hold regular Health & Safety meetings with all business functions to ensure Health & Safety directives, actions and objectives are effectively communicated and implemented.
· Support managers in developing and maintaining safe systems of work and embedding compliance requirements into daily operations.
· Maintain accurate records and documentation relating to audits, inspections, incidents, investigations, training and compliance activities.
· Remain up to date with changes in legislation, regulations and industry best practices, ensuring these are reflected within company procedures and management systems.
· Attend and be an active participant of monthly Safety & Compliance Team meetings
Business Systems & Technology
· Act as administrator and subject matter expert for compliance and operational systems including Microsoft 365, Riskex, GoAudits, Lucidchart and future business platforms.
· Demonstrate the ability to quickly learn, configure, administer and support new software applications and proprietary systems as business requirements evolve.
· Develop, maintain and continuously improve business systems, workflows, dashboards, forms, reports and processes.
· Troubleshoot system issues and provide ongoing support to managers and employees.
· Develop and maintain process maps, procedures and supporting documentation to ensure consistency, compliance and operational effectiveness.
· Analyse system data and reporting outputs to identify trends, drive efficiencies and support business decision-making.
Process Improvement & Business Excellence
· Analyse existing business processes to identify opportunities for improvement, optimisation and standardisation.
· Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement process improvement initiatives that support organisational goals and operational excellence.
· Challenge outdated processes and procedures constructively, providing practical recommendations for improvement.
· Support continuous improvement activities across all departments, ensuring improvements are measurable, sustainable and aligned with business objectives.
· Assist in the development and enhancement of management systems and business controls to improve efficiency, compliance and performance.
Training, Coaching & Communication
· Develop and deliver training programmes, inductions, toolbox talks, workshops and awareness sessions covering safety, compliance, business systems and best practices.
· Train managers and employees on new systems, processes and procedures, ensuring effective adoption and compliance.
· Create and maintain training materials, user guides, process documentation and communications.
· Communicate audit findings, compliance requirements and process improvements clearly and effectively to audiences at all levels of the business.
· Provide advice, support and coaching to managers and employees on Health & Safety, compliance and business process matters.
Reporting & Stakeholder Management
· Prepare and present compliance, safety and operational reports for senior management and directors.
· Analyse audit, incident and compliance data to identify trends and recommend improvement actions.
· Liaise with external auditors, customers, regulators and other stakeholders as required
Build effective working relationships across all levels of the organisation to support compliance, operational performance and continuous improvement initiatives.
