Derwen College is seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Support Practitioner to join our supportive and inclusive team. This role plays a key part in delivering high-quality support to students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), enabling them to develop independence, life skills, and confidence.
As a Senior Support Practitioner, you will lead by example, providing direct support to students while also guiding and mentoring support staff to ensure consistent, person-centred care and education across the college.
Key Responsibilities

Provide high-quality, person-centred support to students with a range of learning disabilities and additional needs.

Lead and support a team of Support Practitioners, offering guidance, mentoring, and day-to-day supervision.

Work closely with teaching staff, therapists, and residential teams to implement individual learning and support plans.

Promote independence, wellbeing, and personal development for all students.

Monitor and maintain accurate records, ensuring compliance with safeguarding, health and safety, and college policies.

Contribute to the continuous improvement of support services across the college.
About You
We are looking for someone who is passionate about supporting young people and adults with SEND and has the leadership skills to inspire a team.
Essential:

Experience supporting individuals with learning disabilities, autism, or additional needs.

Previous experience in a senior support, supervisory, or team leader role.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students.

Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
Desirable:

Relevant qualification in Health & Social Care, Education, or similar (Level 3 or above).

Experience in an educational or residential college setting.

Knowledge of person-centred planning and positive behaviour support.

This is a term time role offering a salary range of £14.50 - £15.95 per hour.
