Gilkes has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic & motivated Maintenance Supervisor to join us at our head office in Kendal, Cumbria.
Reporting to the Facilities Manager, you will be responsible for supervising the maintenance team regarding competency requirements, development, time keeping and welfare. Working pro-actively, using preventative maintenance techniques to maintain the smooth running of operations and to maintain the fabric of the premises. This position requires expertise in troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining mechanical equipment and machinery to minimise downtime and maximise productivity whilst adhering to health and safety protocols.
Responsibilities
- Executing and managing mechanical maintenance according to company standards and systems.
- Regularly inspecting mechanical equipment to identify issues.
- Diagnosing and troubleshooting problems using manuals, diagnostic tools, and experience.
- Scheduling and performing routine maintenance to prevent breakdowns.
- Repairing faulty machinery and replacing defective parts.
- Coordinating with suppliers for part replacement.
- Keeping detailed records of maintenance activities.
- Adhering to health and safety protocols.
- Ensuring all repairs meet safety standards.
- Overseeing facility maintenance.

The ideal candidate will have leadership experience, strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to adapt to changing business needs. They should be capable of analysing and improving processes to maintain facilities effectively. Additionally, they must interact professionally with other departments, suppliers, and contractors.
The Role
This role plays a key part in maintaining smooth operations across the business. The role has the following key elements:
- Supervising the Maintenance Team
- First point of contact for maintenance issues and queries
- Ensuring machine breakdowns are addressed quickly and efficiently
- Liaising with the Facilities Manager and other departments to ensure swift resolution of maintenance issues and timely preventative maintenance.
Requirements
- HNC in Mechanical field or equivalent experience
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment.
- Proficient in reading technical aids such as drawings
- Experience in a similar manufacturing environment
- Good IT skills
- Good Health, Safety and Environmental knowledge
- Effective communication and teamwork
- Able to lift, carry and move equipment
Pay: £31,744.00-£33,187.00 per year
