Do you have a passion for delivering excellent customer service and making a real difference in local communities?
At Kirklees Council, our Housing Management Officers play a key role in helping tenants sustain successful tenancies, supporting thriving neighbourhoods, and ensuring our communities remain safe, welcoming places to live.
We're looking for proactive, customer-focused individuals who are committed to delivering high-quality housing services and building positive relationships with residents, partners and stakeholders across Kirklees.
About the Role
We are currently recruiting to several Housing Management Officer vacancies across several teams within the service.
To help you understand the opportunities available, we've provided a Job Profile and Job Focus Sheets which outline the different team areas and responsibilities. We encourage you to review these documents before submitting your application.
As part of the application process, you'll be invited to tell us if you have a preferred team and explain why that area interests you. Whilst we will take your preferences into consideration, appointments will ultimately be made based on the skills, experience and strengths demonstrated throughout the recruitment process to ensure the best fit for both you and the service.
Teams include:
Tenancy Enablement Team – Temporary contact until August 2027
Anti-Social Behaviour – Permanent
Communal Safety Team – Permanent
Housing Management - Permanent
As a Housing Management Officer, you will deliver a customer-focused, holistic housing management service that keeps customers at the heart of everything we do. Working within one of our specialist housing functions, you will support the delivery of key housing services including tenancy management, income collection, neighbourhood management, customer support, empty homes, partnerships and tenant engagement.
You will be responsible for providing early help and practical support to customers, ensuring they can access services when they need them and helping them achieve positive outcomes that enable them to sustain their tenancy. You'll work closely with tenants, colleagues, partner organisations and voluntary sector services to identify solutions, resolve issues and improve communities.
No two days are the same. You will balance support and challenge, working directly with residents to address concerns, improve neighbourhoods and create places where people are proud to live.
What You'll Be Doing
Delivering a robust housing management service, including tenancy management.
Acting as a key point of contact for tenants and leaseholders, providing professional advice and support.
Working with vulnerable customers and supporting them to access appropriate services and support networks.
Developing strong partnerships with internal teams, external agencies and community organisations to achieve positive outcomes for tenants and communities.
Promoting resident involvement, engagement and empowerment.
Using a problem-solving and flexible approach to resolve complex issues, including the use of mediation and negotiation skills where appropriate.
Monitoring performance, identifying opportunities for improvement and helping to increase customer satisfaction across the service.
Preparing clear and professional communications for customers, colleagues and partners.
About You
We're looking for individuals who are passionate about supporting people and improving communities. You will have:
GCSE Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact effectively and sensitively with a wide range of people both verbally and in writing.
Experience of working towards targets and achieving positive outcomes.
Strong partnership working skills and the ability to collaborate with a range of organisations and stakeholders.
Experience of using databases, case management systems or similar ICT systems.
Good digital skills and confidence using a variety of software packages.
Knowledge of safeguarding, equality and diversity, and health and safety responsibilities relevant to the role.
The ability to work flexibly, respond positively to change and manage a varied workload.
The ability to work independently and as part of a team to achieve results.
Relevant housing qualifications, such as a CIH Level 3 qualification (or a willingness to work towards one), would be advantageous depending on the service area.
Why Kirklees?
Kirklees is a diverse and vibrant place with strong communities and a rich heritage. By joining our Housing Service, you'll have the opportunity to make a genuine difference to people's lives while developing your own skills and career.
If you're passionate about helping people, solving problems and creating stronger communities, we'd love to hear from you.
Join us and help make Kirklees a great place to live, work and thrive.
