Sustainability & Social Value Coordinator
Location: Preston – Head Office based
Hours: Monday–Friday, 40 hours per week
Salary: £34,000 per annum
The Role
We’re looking for a passionate and proactive Sustainability & Social Value Coordinator to help turn our sustainability ambitions into measurable action.
This is a varied role covering ESG and carbon reporting, social value, customer support, employee engagement and sustainability projects. You’ll work across the business, helping to coordinate our sustainability strategy and ensuring initiatives move from ideas into meaningful outcomes.
It’s a great opportunity for someone looking to develop their career in sustainability, ESG and social value within a business where environmental and social impact genuinely matter.
The Business
Recycling Lives Services is not a typical recycling company. Since 2008, our business has been built around social value – employing people from disadvantaged backgrounds, partnering with the justice system to reduce reoffending and delivering environmental excellence at scale.
As a certified B Corp, scoring 103.5 against a business median of 50.9, we generated £42.9m in social value in 2024, achieved a 61% reduction in CO₂ emissions and diverted 97% of waste from landfill.
We operate UK-wide across construction, manufacturing, retail, utilities and public sector markets, providing total waste management, WEEE recycling and specialist hazardous waste services.
What You'll Be Doing
- Coordinate ESG, carbon and social value reporting, including customer sustainability data requests.
- Collect, validate and analyse sustainability data and monitor key KPIs.
- Support sustainability sections of customer tenders, proposals and questionnaires.
- Coordinate employee volunteering, community initiatives and our Sustainability Champions group.
- Help deliver sustainability campaigns, training and employee engagement activities.
- Build relationships with charities, partners and external sustainability organisations.
- Coordinate sustainability projects and track progress against our strategy and action plans.
- Research emerging legislation, best practice, accreditations and opportunities to improve our environmental and social impact.
What We're Looking For
You’ll be someone who is organised, analytical and genuinely passionate about sustainability, with the drive to take ownership and make things happen.
Ideally, you'll bring:
- Strong organisation and project coordination skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and confidence working with data and reporting.
- Strong written communication and report-writing skills.
- Confidence using Excel and Microsoft Office.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- The ability to manage multiple priorities and work across different teams.
- A proactive, self-motivated and collaborative approach.
- An interest in sustainability, ESG and social value.
Previous experience in sustainability, ESG, CSR or environmental management would be advantageous, as would knowledge of carbon reporting, B Corp, ISO standards, tender submissions or ESG reporting frameworks – but we don't expect you to know everything from day one.
What Success Looks Like
You'll help us deliver accurate sustainability reporting, stronger customer ESG support, increased employee engagement and effective delivery of our sustainability strategy. You'll build productive external partnerships and proactively identify opportunities to improve our environmental and social performance.
