The Role
We are looking for a motivated and ambitious Trainee Flat Roofing Estimator to join our team at our Bedford Head Office.
This role is ideal for someone looking to develop a long-term career within the roofing and construction industry. The successful candidate will receive full training and support from experienced surveyors and estimators, gaining the skills and knowledge required to progress into a fully competent Flat Roofing Estimator.
Core Office Hours: 8:00am – 5:00pm (1-hour lunch)
Training & Development
As part of your development, you will spend a minimum of three months within our Surveying Department, working alongside experienced surveyors and attending site visits. This practical training will provide valuable hands-on experience of flat roofing systems, site measurements, condition surveys, and project requirements.
During this period, you will regularly travel to sites to gain a thorough understanding of the surveying process and how it supports the estimating function. Following completion of this training, you will transition into the estimating team with a strong foundation of technical and practical knowledge.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with site surveys and material take-offs
- Learn how to prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates for roofing projects
- Obtain and review supplier and subcontractor quotations
- Assist with analysing drawings, specifications, and tender documentation
- Support the preparation of tender submissions
- Attend contract review and handover meetings where required
- Maintain project records and estimating documentation
- Develop an understanding of project costs, commercial margins, and procurement processes
- Work accurately and efficiently to meet deadlines
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have some previous experience within a construction-related environment and be looking to develop a career within estimating.
Experience within the roofing industry would be advantageous, particularly exposure to flat roofing systems, although full training will be provided.
Skills & Experience
- Previous experience within a construction environment is preferred
- Flat roofing experience would be advantageous
- Strong numerical and analytical skills
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to organise and prioritise workloads effectively
- Competent in Microsoft Office applications
- A proactive attitude and willingness to learn
- Comfortable working at heights and visiting active construction sites
- Full UK Driving Licence (required)
- DBS check (facilitated by the company)
