Job Summary
Puma Berry Ltd is seeking an experienced SC-Cleared Ordnance Safety & Engineering Assurance Engineer to support a major UK Defence programme.
This is an Inside IR35 contract opportunity, subject to Puma Berry Ltd being awarded the relevant client contract. You will provide specialist engineering assurance and safety support across the development, assessment and in-service management of ordnance and weapon systems, ensuring compliance with MOD safety standards, legislation and engineering governance.
The role requires a hands-on engineer with strong experience in ordnance safety, weapon systems, engineering assurance, safety cases, hazard management and stakeholder engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide engineering assurance and technical safety support for ordnance and weapon system programmes throughout the project lifecycle.
- Develop, review and maintain safety cases, hazard logs, hazard analyses and supporting safety documentation.
- Ensure compliance with MOD safety policies, JSPs, Defence Standards and engineering governance requirements.
- Conduct hazard identification, risk assessments and safety reviews for ordnance, munitions and associated systems.
- Support design reviews and engineering assurance activities to ensure safety requirements are captured and maintained.
- Liaise with project teams, safety authorities, customers and suppliers to resolve technical and safety issues.
- Provide technical advice on ordnance safety, explosive safety and engineering assurance activities.
- Review engineering evidence and ensure deliverables meet quality and assurance requirements.
Experience
- 8+ years’ commercial or MOD experience in ordnance safety, weapon systems engineering, explosive safety or engineering assurance.
- Proven experience producing or reviewing safety cases, hazard logs and engineering assurance documentation.
- Strong understanding of the MOD systems engineering lifecycle and safety management processes.
- Experience applying Defence Standards, JSPs and engineering governance within complex defence programmes.
- Experience working within multidisciplinary engineering teams and engaging with customers and stakeholders.
- Excellent technical report writing and communication skills.
Desirable
- Experience within MOD, Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S), Front Line Commands or defence prime contractors.
- Knowledge of explosive safety, ammunition, munitions, guided weapons or complex weapon systems.
- Experience supporting safety panels, design reviews and engineering assurance boards.
- Familiarity with Defence Standard 00-056, JSP 520, JSP 454 or other relevant MOD safety publications.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards professional registration.
Requirements
- Active SC Security Clearance is essential. Candidates who are only eligible for SC clearance cannot be considered.
- Strong engineering assurance and technical safety capability.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to work effectively within secure, client-facing defence environments.
- Applicants must have the unrestricted right to work in the UK.

On-site Requirement
Hybrid working, with on-site delivery at MOD Abbey Wood, Bristol (BS34 8JH). Attendance requirements will be agreed with the client and project team.
Pay: £550.00-£650.00 per day
