1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant Weeton St Michael's is a caring, inclusive and welcoming school where every child is supported to flourish. We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated 1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant to support a Reception-aged pupil with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) as they begin their school journey. The pupil is a happy young child who enjoys sensory play, outdoor learning and creative activities. They benefit from a calm, structured approach, visual supports and a trusted adult to help them access learning and develop independence.
The Role
- Provide dedicated 1:1 support throughout the school day.
- Support communication using visual timetables, Makaton and structured routines.
- Deliver personalised learning and play activities.
- Support transitions, emotional regulation and positive social interactions.
- Promote safety during indoor, outdoor and physical activities.
- Assist with personal care and self-help routines.
- Monitor progress and maintain EHCP records.
- Work closely with the class teacher, SENCo, parents and external professionals.
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience supporting children with SEND, particularly speech, language and communication needs.
- Has knowledge of, or is willing to learn, Makaton and communication strategies.
- Understands sensory needs and emotional regulation.
- Is calm, patient, nurturing and able to build positive relationships.
- Can adapt learning to meet individual needs.
- Is confident supporting personal care.
- Works well as part of a team.
- Supports our Christian ethos and values.
