We're recruiting Targeted Housing Advisors to support the Housing Advice, Information and Assessment Service. This is a front-line advisory role, ideal for experienced housing professionals with strong knowledge of homelessness legislation and a proactive, customer-focused approach.
About the Role
As a Targeted Housing Advisor, you'll provide holistic, personalised housing advice and support to prevent and relieve homelessness, working directly with vulnerable households and managing complex caseloads.
What You'll Be Doing
- Delivering housing advice and support services under statutory frameworks
- Assessing homelessness applications in line with Part VI & VII of the Housing Act 1996 and the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017
- Conducting robust investigatory enquiries and assessing eligibility, homelessness, priority need, local connection, and intentionality
- Formulating legally compliant Personalised Housing Plans
- Writing comprehensive s184 decision letters
- Maintaining accurate case records and client communications
- Collaborating with internal teams, partner agencies, and external organisations to support vulnerable adults and young people
- Managing caseloads effectively and prioritising work to meet deadlines
What We're Looking For
We're seeking candidates with:
- Minimum of 3 years' recent experience as a local authority Housing Options Officer
- Expert knowledge of homelessness legislation (Housing Act 1996, Homelessness Reduction Act 2017)
- Strong investigatory and decision-making skills
- Ability to interpret and explain complex legislation clearly
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Customer-focused attitude with empathy and problem-solving ability
- Strong organisational skills to manage high caseloads
- IT proficiency for accurate record-keeping and case management
