We are a friendly and growing accountancy practice looking for an organised and detail oriented Bookkeeper to join our team. The successful candidate will manage the bookkeeping and VAT compliance for a portfolio of limited company clients, primarily using Xero and Hubdoc.
The role requires someone with excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple client deadlines while maintaining high standards of accuracy and client service.
- Manage the monthly bookkeeping for a portfolio of clients, ensuring records are accurate, complete and up to date.
Responsibilities include:
Client Bookkeeping
- Maintaining accurate bookkeeping records using Xero and Hubdoc.
- Processing and reconciling bank, credit card and cash transactions.
- Processing sales and purchase transactions and maintaining customer and supplier ledgers.
- Reviewing and reconciling balance sheet control accounts.
- Posting journals including payroll, accruals, prepayments, depreciation and loan transactions.
- Maintaining fixed asset records.
- Reconciling director loan accounts and other balance sheet accounts.
- Completing month-end reviews, including trial balance, balance sheet and profit and loss checks.
- Investigating and resolving bookkeeping discrepancies.
- Liaising with clients to obtain missing information and resolve bookkeeping queries.
- Ensuring bookkeeping is completed in accordance with internal procedures and deadlines.
VAT Returns
- Prepare and review VAT returns for a portfolio of clients.
- Reconcile VAT control accounts.
- Review VAT treatment of transactions to ensure compliance with current legislation.
- Identify and resolve VAT discrepancies.
- Submit VAT returns following approval.
Quality & Compliance
- Follow the firm's bookkeeping procedures and quality standards.
- Maintain complete and accurate working papers.
- Ensure client records are compliant with HMRC requirements.
- Identify issues requiring escalation to managers

Skills & Experience
- Previous bookkeeping experience within an accountancy practice.
- AAT qualified or equivalent
- Experience working with limited company clients.
- Strong working knowledge of Xero.
- Experience preparing and submitting VAT returns.

Pay: £25,500.00-£32,000.00 per year
