The James Mercer Group Ltd is seeking an experienced Contract Manager to join our busy Service and Maintenance Department. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated and organised individual to manage planned and reactive maintenance contracts across a range of mechanical building services.
As a long-established Building Services Engineering business, The James Mercer Group Ltd delivers mechanical and electrical services from its Preston Head Office and Liverpool Office.
The Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day management key clients including quoting for remedial works and small works including boiler replacement and plant upgrades. You will ensure all works are delivered safely, efficiently, commercially and to a high standard of customer satisfaction. You will act as a key point of contact for clients, engineers, subcontractors and internal teams, ensuring that contractual obligations, service levels and compliance requirements are met.
This role will suit someone with a strong building services background, excellent communication skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced service environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage planned preventative maintenance and reactive maintenance contracts from mobilisation through to completion.
- Liaise with clients to maintain strong working relationships and ensure a high level of service delivery.
- Undertake surveys to provide quotations for new items of plant for clients
- Coordinate labour, materials, subcontractors and specialist services to meet contract requirements.
- Supervise and support service engineers, ensuring works are completed safely, efficiently and to the required standard.
- Monitor contract performance, including quality, health and safety, programme, cost, customer satisfaction and KPI compliance.
- Review risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work where required.
- Ensure works are delivered in accordance with company policies, procedures and relevant statutory requirements.
- Attend client meetings, site visits and internal contract reviews.
- Identify opportunities for additional works, improvements, efficiencies and value for clients.
- Prepare quotations, reports and variations
- Ensure accurate records are maintained, including service reports, compliance documentation, certification and client communications.
- Promote a positive health and safety culture and ensure company standards are maintained at all times.
About You
The ideal candidate will have:
- Previous experience in a contract management, service management or maintenance management role within the building services, mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing or facilities maintenance sector.
- Strong technical understanding of mechanical and/or electrical building services.
- Experience managing engineers, subcontractors and client relationships.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills.
- Commercial awareness and the ability to manage costs, variations and contract performance.
- A proactive, professional and customer-focused approach.
- Good IT skills and the ability to manage contract documentation and reporting.
- A strong understanding of health and safety requirements within a service and maintenance environment.
Relevant industry qualifications such as NVQ/HNC/HND, trade qualifications, SMSTS/SSSTS, IOSH, Gas Safe, electrical or mechanical qualifications would be advantageous, but suitability will depend on experience and the requirements of the role.

Pay: £52,000.00-£56,000.00 per year
