Deputy Manager – Kingsfield Care Home, Barrow-in-Furness

About the Role
As a Deputy Manager, you will remain a hands-on member of the care team. You will support colleagues, coordinate care, maintain medication and care standards, review records, complete delegated management tasks and escalate risks when needed. You may also be the person in charge during a shift and may be required to take part in weekend on-call duties.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Registered Manager, overseeing daily operations and ensuring compliance with CQC standards and PH Care Group Policies.
- Provide leadership and supervision for staff by setting clear standards, allocating work, monitoring completion, challenging poor practice and recognising effective performance.
- Maintain safe rotas, arranging cover where necessary.
- Work with Head Office and the Registered Manager to ensure safer recruitment and onboarding.
- Undertake investigations, returns to work, capability and performance management meetings.
- Undertake pre-admission assessments, ensuring compatibility with the home.
- Ensure quality and accuracy of all care plans and risk assessments including completion and dissemination of reviews and updates as appropriate.
- Support residents with activities of daily living, encourage independence, choice, and wellbeing.
- Arrange and coordinate medical appointments, including GP visits, hospital appointments and other healthcare services.
- Communicate clearly with residents, relatives, colleagues and healthcare professionals, including leading handovers and producing factual records and statements.
- Support, supervise and guide care team colleagues, giving clear feedback and addressing unsafe practice appropriately.
- Maintain accurate documentation and use electronic systems in line with care home policies and regulatory standards.
- Follow safeguarding, infection control, health and safety and care governance procedures at all times.
About You
We are looking for someone who is caring, confident and reliable, with the ability to support residents and colleagues in a busy care home environment.
- Minimum 12 months’ experience in adult social care or nursing care, supporting older people.
- Level 3 Diploma or above in Adult Care, Health and Social Care, or an equivalent relevant qualification.
- Applicants must be aged 18 or over due to the leadership, medication and operational responsibilities of the role.
- A compassionate, respectful and person-centred approach to care.
- Confidence to lead a shift, support colleagues and respond appropriately to changing priorities.
