Key responsibilities include:
Providing expert clinical assessment, decision-making, and management of children and young people presenting with acute illness, injury, and emergencies.
Acting as a clinical leader and role model, promoting evidence-based practice and maintaining high standards of patient care.
Supporting the operational management of the department, including coordinating patient flow, allocating staff, and responding to changing service demands.
Leading and supporting the nursing team during each shift, ensuring safe staffing levels and effective delegation of care.
Supervising, mentoring, and developing registered nurses, nursing associates, healthcare support workers, and student nurses through teaching, coaching, and appraisal.
Ensuring compliance with national standards, professional guidance, Trust policies, and safeguarding procedures.
Working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to deliver seamless, child- and family-centred care.
Leading on quality improvement initiatives, clinical audit, and service development to enhance patient outcomes and experience.
Supporting the investigation and learning from incidents, complaints, and patient feedback, embedding a culture of continuous improvement.
Promoting effective communication with children, young people, families, and colleagues, ensuring compassionate and inclusive care.
Maintaining clinical competence in paediatric emergency nursing and supporting the implementation of new evidence, guidelines, and innovations into practice.
Acting as a resource for the wider team, providing specialist advice and supporting escalation of deteriorating patient,
The post holder will be expected to participate in the department's 24-hour, 7-day service, including weekends, nights, and bank holidays.
