We have an exciting job opportunity for the position of Mental Health Floating Support Worker working within the CYC Housing Options and Support Service we are looking to recruit a committed and enthusiastic person to provide high quality support to all customers living customers who living in their own tenancies in the community or within our more independent supported accommodation schemes
The Mental Health floating support service supports single homeless people/rough sleepers who’s main support need is around their mental health, who are primarily living in their own tenancies or maybe at the latter stages of their resettlement process and are ready to move on into independent living
From there the workers offer floating support to those who have successfully moved into their own tenancies supporting them to maintain their own accommodation or those who are living in their own accommodation but are experiencing housing difficulties.
Working as part of a small team the successful applicant will provide a planned and occasionally responsive support to customers on their case loads.
You will provide appropriate formal 1-1 Resettlement support and emotional and practical support to people accessing the service, the majority of whom are living in the community in their own tenancies , many of whom are vulnerable and under a high level of stress, and who have mental health issues, therefore the successful applicant will have good interpersonal skills and understand issues people face with mental health and accessing appropriate services or who have been homeless, or have rough slept, or at risk or losing their accommodation.
You will be capable of working on your own initiative, and will be able to work in partnership with other services/agencies to support people such primarily, mental health and social care, drug and alcohol services, probation and police etc.
Experience of working with homeless people or providing housing related support or supported accommodation and understanding the issues surrounding the client group is desirable.
You will need to be able to demonstrate that you are sympathetic, and firm and you are able to show resilience and cope in situations which can be stressful as well as rewarding.
The successful applicant will offer support both formal case work support and informal support to the customers working with the service.
The successful applicant will offer a safe and supportive environment and work as part of a multi-disciplined team, supporting the supervisor and manager in service delivery, including supporting a case load of customers, help report repairs, rents, cleaning, health and safety etc.
The successful applicant will be part of a small team the role requires a flexible and understanding approach in what is sometimes a very challenging but rewarding environment.
The Mental Health Floating Support Team are a central part to the city’s strategy to reduce and eradicate rough sleeping by supporting people to maintain their tenancies.
The duties of this post require the postholder to undertake a basic Criminal Record check (unspent convictions only) via the Disclosure and Barring Service.
