Overview
The Cover Supervisor plays a vital role in maintaining a positive and productive learning environment within schools across Derby. This position involves supervising classes in the absence of the regular teacher, ensuring that students remain engaged and focused on their work. The Cover Supervisor will also support students with diverse needs, including those with special educational requirements, while fostering an inclusive atmosphere.
Duties
- Supervise and manage classroom activities in the absence of the regular teacher.
- Ensure that students follow school policies and maintain a respectful learning environment.
- Provide support to students, particularly those with special educational needs or autism, to help them engage with their learning.
- Assist in the implementation of lesson plans and educational activities as directed by teaching staff.
- Communicate effectively with students to encourage participation and understanding of tasks.
- Monitor student progress and behaviour, providing feedback to teaching staff as necessary.
- Foster a supportive atmosphere that encourages creativity and independent thinking among students.
- Mentor students who may require additional guidance or tutoring in specific subjects or skills.
Qualifications
- Experience working with children in an educational setting is essential.
- A background in special education or experience supporting children with autism is highly desirable.
- Strong communication skills to effectively educate and engage with students of varying abilities.
- Creative writing skills are beneficial for assisting students in literacy tasks.
- Ability to mentor and guide students, fostering their personal and academic development.
- A proactive attitude towards problem-solving and adapting to the needs of individual learners.
