We are seeking an enthusiastic and hands-on & Gardening &bHorticulturist Support team member to join our small, passionate team at Jekka’s Herb Farm.
This role combines horticultural work with general garden maintenance and support tasks, providing a varied and rewarding day-to-day experience. It is ideal for someone with a love of plants, a practical approach to gardening, and an interest in supporting a small but busy herb farm.
Gardening Support (60%):
- Support the upkeep of Jekka’s gardens including digging, planting, weeding and pruning;
- Help prepare gardens and spaces for workshops, tours, and herb experiences;
- Occasionally support customer-facing activities such as open days and farm gate collections, which involves occasional Saturday work;
- Assist in general farm maintenance tasks as needed (e.g. grass cutting, hedge trimming and power washing).
Horticulturist (40%):
- Assist in the propagation, division and potting of herb and vegetable plants;
- Maintain sales stock and ensure healthy, thriving plants;
- Watering and general plant care (may include occasional weekend work);
- Assist with seed packing, labelling, and plant signage.
Essential:
- Passion for plants and a desire to learn. We grow over 400 different types of herbs and each herb is different, not only how they grow but also how they are maintained;
- Pro-active, flexible and adaptable as every-day could be different depending on the weather or events that are happening from Master Classes to Open Days;
- Eye for detail, which is essential for watering, propagating herbs and potting pest and disease;
- Physically fit and keen to work outdoors in all weathers as you will need to lift 40L bags of compost, push
trolleys and carry trays of plants;
- We are situated down a country lane, so own transport is essential.
Desirable:
- Previous horticultural experience (ideally 1 years + in a relevant field);
- Previous experience working in a commercial nursery;
- Experience in propagation, potting and watering;
- A good knowledge of pests and diseases with supporting qualifications;
- Working with customers in sales and support;
- RHS level 2 or equivalent;
- Working in a family business.

- Strong attention to detail in plant care and garden maintenance;
- Enjoys a hands-on, practical role with variety and challenges;
- Comfortable interacting with visitors, customers, and volunteers
- This is a permanent, full-time position (39 hours/week, 5 days/week) but we will consider a part-time arrangement for the right applicant(s);
- Flexibility is required to accommodate weather conditions and operational needs, including occasional weekend work.
Salary: Competitive, based on experience.
