Job Title: Plumbing Trainer – Smart Energy Training
Location: Ashbourne and Nottingham
Salary: Up to £44,000 + bonus (dependent on experience & qualifications)

At Smart Energy Training, we deliver high-quality training and apprenticeships across plumbing, gas, electrical, and renewable sectors – and we’re growing. We’re looking for enthusiastic and knowledgeable Plumbing Trainers to join our expert team at our purpose-built training centres in Nottingham and Ashbourne.
Whether you’re an experienced trainer or a skilled plumber looking to step away from the tools and into education, this role offers the opportunity to pass on your knowledge and help shape the future workforce.
What you’ll be doing:
- Deliver engaging, high-quality training to plumbing apprentices
- Plan and deliver structured lessons aligned with qualification standards
- Provide one-to-one and small group support to help learners reach their full potential
- Support learners through practical workshop sessions and classroom learning
- Assess learner progress and provide constructive feedback
- Maintain accurate records of learner progress and attendance
- Work collaboratively with employers and internal teams to support learner success
- Create a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
- Keep up to date with industry developments and best practice within plumbing and heating
What we’re looking for:
Essential:
- A relevant Level 3 plumbing qualification, such as:
- NVQ Level 3 Plumbing & Domestic Heating
- City & Guilds Level 3 Plumbing
- Equivalent legacy advanced craft qualifications
- Strong industry experience in plumbing and heating
- A passion for supporting and developing the next generation of tradespeople
- Confident communication skills and the ability to engage learners effectively
- A patient, supportive, and learner-focused approach
Desirable:
- Gas qualifications (e.g. CCN1, CENWAT, CKR1, HTR1) or renewable qualifications (e.g. heat pumps, solar thermal)
- Teaching and/or assessing qualifications (AET, DET, PGCE, TAQA or equivalent) – training can be provided
Salary and benefits:
- Up to £40,000 for Plumbing Trainers
- Up to £44,000 for candidates with Gas or Renewable qualifications
- Performance bonus
- 37.5 hours per week (typically Monday to Friday)
