Job Summary
To cover any periods of annual leave, sickness absence or compassionate leave taken by our permanent Chef. To prepare meals for the home's eleven residents - breakfast, lunch and dinner. You will work on an ad-hoc basis, when the need arises. On occasions, this may be at short notice or scheduled in advance. Shifts will be any day of the week or weekend between 8am to 2pm.
Responsibilities and Duties
Menu preparation
You will work with the home's regular Chef and Registered Manager to prepare menus for residents which are appropriate to their personal nutritional needs.
Cooking
You will prepare tasty and nutritious meals, and ensure they are ready on time to be served to residents.
Washing and tidying
You will manage the kitchen to ensure crockery, cutlery and kitchen utensils are clean and put away tidily.
Purchasing
You will co-ordinate with the regular Chef and the Registered Manager to ensure healthy provisions are purchased on time and within budget.
Health & Safety
You will ensure the kitchen is compliant with regulations.
Experience / Skills
- Experience working as a cook ideally in a restaurant or commercial kitchen
- Training or cookery qualifications, for example NVQ or culinary school
- It would be useful to have worked in a community environment such as a care home, hospital or school.
- Easy going, happy to work as an individual or as part of a team.
