Lewis Pies are a family-owned company who have been making pastries, breads and cakes since 1936. We have an exciting opportunity for a Packing Operative to join our team at our Fforestfach site in Swansea.
Packing Operatives play a vital role in ensuring our products are packed safely, accurately, and to the high standards our customers expect. The role involves working both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced production environment, ensuring production targets, quality standards, and customer requirements are consistently met
We are looking for an individual with strong work ethics, warehouse experience and willingness to work in an indoors, freezer and outdoors conditions.
Job Purpose:
You’ll play a key role at the heart of our operation, driving the smooth and efficient movement of goods across the business. As a valued member of a forward-thinking team, you’ll help shape continuous improvements and will be supported by a management group invested in your growth and success.
Your role will be diverse and hands-on, with responsibilities that include warehouse and freezer management, stock replenishment, raw material ordering, and overseeing monthly stock counts. You’ll work closely with both the production and sales teams each day to ensure customer orders are dispatched accurately and on time. This is a role where your impact will be felt daily, and where you’ll have the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Receiving, inspecting and documenting goods inward.
- Pallet building and loading goods outward.
- Maintaining orderly pick areas and appropriate stock levels.
- Liaise with different departments to support with stock moves.
- Reporting and maintaining warehouse stock levels.
- Load and off-load vehicles using a forklift where required. Forklift and combilift training provided.
- Ensuring warehouse and site is a clean and tidy environment, including upkeep like emptying recycling or food waste bins.
- Ensuring health & safety codes of practice and legislation are adhered, following company quality standards.
- Helping the onsite technical team adhere to the BRC site regulations.
- Ensuring GRN batches are accurately allocated in the system and correctly labelled on all received goods, with FIFO practices adhered to wherever possible.
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Ability to start ASAP
- Ability to reliably commute to site
- Good attention to detail and the ability to maintain high quality standards
- The ability to complete paperwork and use our in-house systems accurately and efficiently
- A strong awareness of Health & Safety and Food Safety requirements
- Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team
- The ability to work independently and use their own initiative
- A flexible approach to work and changing business requirements
- Physical capability to undertake manual handling activities when required
- Ability to work flexible finish times from 3:30pm onwards.
Experience working within a factory or manufacturing environment is essential. Food manufacturing experience would be advantageous.
Please note that duties are not exhaustive and may vary according to the needs of the business. Employees may be required to support different departments from time to time.
The role includes:
- 7:30am start time, Monday to Friday (occasional holiday cover with 5am start)
- No weekends
