The role:
Northeastern University London is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Men's Football Coach to lead our men's football team competing in the London Universities Sport League (LUSL) Men's Intermediate Division.
This is a hands-on coaching role suited to someone who understands the unique demands of university sport, balancing competitive performance with student welfare, team cohesion and development. You will work closely with the team captain, the Communities Officer and the Students' Union President to provide an excellent experience for all players, regardless of background or prior level.
University Sport Context
Our mixed team competes in LUSL at the Intermediate level, with structured weekly fixtures for students, and the coach must be familiar with LUSL registration, eligibility rules, and the fixture calendar.
Duties and Responsibilities
Coaching & Session Delivery
- Plan, deliver and evaluate engaging weekly training sessions appropriate for intermediate-level student players.
- Design and implement a progressive coaching programme covering technical, tactical and team-based objectives across the season.
- Adapt sessions to accommodate players of varying experience and ability within the squad.
- Provide constructive individual and group feedback to support player development and enjoyment.
- Foster a positive, inclusive team culture where all players feel valued and motivated.
Match Preparation & Fixtures
- Prepare the squad for all LUSL weekly fixtures throughout the season (typically October to March).
- Attend home and away fixtures; lead warm-up, team selection and in-game management in consultation with the team captain.
- Conduct brief post-match reviews to guide ongoing training priorities.
Administration & Compliance
- Ensure all players are correctly registered with LUSL and comply with BUCS student eligibility requirements before competing.
- Liaise with the Communities Officer and SU President on squad administration, player numbers and fixture logistics.
- Submit match results and any required reports to LUSL within required timeframes.
- Maintain basic training attendance records and contribute to end-of-season feedback.
Safeguarding, Welfare & Inclusion
- Uphold the university's safeguarding and duty-of-care obligations at all times.
- Promote a safe, respectful coaching environment in line with The FA and BUCS guidelines.
- Support student athlete wellbeing, recognising the pressures of balancing sport with academic commitments.
- Adhere to all health and safety requirements at training venues and away grounds.
Club Growth & Development
- Support player recruitment, including participation in fresher events and introductory sessions at the start of the academic year.
- Work with the SU to promote the football club and grow participation across the university community.

Education, Qualifications and Training
- Minimum FA Level 1 Coaching Qualification (or equivalent NGB award) [E]
- FA Level 2 or working towards it [D]
- Current First Aid qualification (e.g. Emergency First Aid in Football) [E]
- Valid DBS check (Enhanced) or willingness to obtain one prior to start [E]
Experience
- Demonstrated experience coaching football at club, university, or grassroots level [E]
- Experience working with young adults or student athletes [E]
- Previous experience in a university or Students' Union sport environment [D]
- Playing experience at amateur or semi-professional level [D]
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Working knowledge of LUSL structure, fixture administration, registration and eligibility rules [E]
- Understanding of BUCS competition formats and student eligibility requirements [E]
- Ability to plan and deliver progressive, inclusive coaching sessions suitable for intermediate-level players [E]
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to motivate and build relationships with students [E]
- Organisational reliability, consistent attendance at weekly training and fixtures throughout the season is essential [E]
- Commitment to safeguarding and student welfare [E]
- Familiarity with video or performance analysis tools [D]
