Deputy Manager - Children's Residential Support Worker
Location: Rochdale
Salary: £16 per hour plus £100 per sleep.
Enhanced weekend rate £17ph
Contract Type: Permanent Position Type: Full time (Minimum 36 hours per week)
Day shift: 9:30am till 9:30pm
Sleep shift: 10am-11pm sleep 7am-10am
Accountable to the Registered Manager, overall accountability to the Responsible Individual.
This role will include shift work involving evenings, weekends and sleeps (including a sleep-in allowance).
Job purpose
To support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day management and development of the children’s home, ensuring high-quality, child-centred care and compliance with the Children’s Homes Regulations and Quality Standards. The Deputy Manager plays a key leadership role, promoting safeguarding, positive outcomes for children and young people, and a culture of continuous improvement.
Duties & Responsibilities
- To manage and supervise a team of support workers / senior support workers.
- In all aspects of the day to day management of the house and its programmes and activities, ensuring that it operates in a smooth, effective and efficient manner.
- Undertaking a range of domestic duties, including cooking and cleaning, to a good standard, complying with health and safety policies and guidelines for young people and staff.
- Setting an example to all other staff in high standards of dress code, professional courtesy and manners, communication, report writing, dealing with issues and conflict resolution.
- Preparing the agenda for meetings and for chairing and taking minutes.
- Training new staff in care staff procedures and routines.
- Identifying and assessing each young person’s problems and needs.
- Assigning a Key Worker to each young person.
- Oversight of the writing the young person’s Placement Plan.
- Attending internal and external review meetings, when required, as his/her representative.
- Maintaining positive working relationships with professionals and other agencies and working as a multi-disciplinary team
- Developing and maintaining positive relationships with each young person to ensure that his/her needs are met.
- Ensuring that social and recreational activities for each young person are assessed for risk and are well planned, organised and adequately supervised. Ensuring that staff are involved in the activities.
- Maintain and sustain high standards of hygiene and cleanliness within the house. This includes the exterior of the home.
- Are aware of the extent of their role and responsibility and fulfil their duties to a high standard.
- Ensuring that he/she is able to conduct the fortnightly and monthly supervision sessions with staff without being disturbed.
- Support rota planning and staffing levels to meet children’s needs.
- Assist with budget management and resource allocation.
- Ensure incidents, complaints, and notifications are managed in line with regulations.
- Ensure all children’s records and documents are accurate, up to date, and reflective of current needs and risks.
- Oversee the regular review and updating of care plans, placement plans, risk assessments, behaviour support plans, and health care plans.
- Ensure daily records, incident reports, safeguarding logs, and medication records are completed to a high standard and within required timescales.
- Ensure statutory notifications, reports, and internal monitoring documents are completed and submitted correctly.
- Support staff to maintain high-quality written records through guidance, feedback, and training.
- Oversee care planning processes, ensuring plans are current and reflective of children’s needs.
- Contribute to placement planning, reviews, and professional meetings.
- Sharing On-Call duties on a monthly rota.
- Developing staff includes an agency, bank and new starters.
- Follow and complete the deputy manager's monthly check list. This will be given to you on your initial probation meeting.
- Adapt your working hours to support your registered manager in their absence and support the business needs.
- Willingness to partake in events such as training, workshops, development days and team building exercise.
- Attend training, supervision, and team meetings.
- Work in line with the home’s policies, Children’s Homes Regulations, and Quality Standards.
- Follow managerial instructions this is not limited to your line manager.
- Follow individual care plans, risk assessments, and placement plans.
- Maintain accurate, clear, and timely records, including daily logs and incident reports.
Person Specification
Qualifications
· NVQ Level 4 in caring for Children & Young People completed or enrolled.
Experience
· Minimum of two years’ experience working in a Children’s Residential Home
· Minimum six months supervisory experience
