Position: Gardener
Location: Unit 1, Sandgate Industrial Estate, 57 Sandgate Street, Southwark, SE15 1LE

Contract Duration: 6+ Months
Working Hours: 36 Hours Per Week
Pay Rate: PAYE: £15.88 Per Hour
Job Responsibilities:
- Carry out grass cutting, hedge trimming, and general maintenance of lawns, flower beds, and communal green spaces across council estates
- Keep pathways, entrances, and shared outdoor areas clean, tidy, and safe at all times
- Carry out regular litter picking and removal of waste from public and communal areas
- Complete seasonal duties including leaf clearance, snow clearance, and gritting where required
- Drive and operate work vehicles, including a 3.5-tonne van and towing a trailer when required
- Use and maintain grounds maintenance equipment safely and effectively, including:
- Strimmers
- Hedge cutters
- Blowers
- Ride-on lawnmowers
- Pedestrian lawnmowers
- Various hand tools
- Report issues such as fly-tipping, vandalism, or health and safety hazards to the relevant council team
- Work in line with all health and safety procedures and manual handling guidelines
- Interact with residents in a polite, professional, and community-focused manner
- Ensure all work is completed to a high standard and within required timeframes
Requirements:
Essential Requirements:
- Full UK driving licence with ability to drive a 3.5-tonne vehicle
- Previous experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, or gardening roles
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Physically fit and capable of carrying out manual labour
- Good understanding of basic health and safety and manual handling practices
- Ability to use and maintain a range of grounds maintenance equipment
- Eligible to work in the UK
Desirable Requirements:
- Experience with trailer use
- Basic horticulture knowledge
- Previous experience working in public sector or council environments
- Strong communication skills and a reliable, professional attitude
- Able to work independently as well as part of a team
