Dunbar Education is recruiting for a BSL Level 3 Learning Support Assistant to join a supportive SEN school in Rayleigh, Essex.
The school is looking for an experienced and compassionate LSA who can use British Sign Language confidently to support deaf children with their learning, communication and inclusion within the school environment.
This is a 3-day-per-week, ongoing temporary position and would be ideal for someone with experience supporting deaf or hearing-impaired pupils in an educational or SEN setting.
The Role
As a BSL Learning Support Assistant, you will:
- Provide targeted support to deaf children throughout the school day.
- Use BSL to support pupils' communication, understanding and access to learning.
- Work closely with teachers and other support staff to adapt learning where required.
- Provide 1:1 and small-group support.
- Encourage pupils' independence, confidence and social inclusion.
- Support pupils with their individual learning and SEN needs.
- Help create a positive, accessible and inclusive learning environment.
Requirements
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- Level 3 BSL qualification – essential.
- Previous experience working with children or young people.
- Experience supporting deaf or hearing-impaired children is highly desirable.
- Experience within an SEN or educational setting.
- A patient, positive and adaptable approach.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to complete a new DBS check.
