4 on 4 off - shift pattern - 06.00 - 18.00
Job Summary
The Shift Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily operations of the recycling plant during an assigned shift. This role ensures production targets are met safely and efficiently while maintaining compliance with environmental, safety, and quality standards. The supervisor leads plant staff, coordinates equipment operation, and acts as the first point of contact for operational issues.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Production
- Supervise and coordinate recycling plant activities during assigned shift
- Ensure sorting, processing, and baling operations meet production and quality targets
- Monitor equipment performance and report mechanical issues promptly
- Adjust staffing and workflow to meet changing production demands
- Maintain accurate shift reports, production logs, and downtime records
Safety & Compliance
- Enforce all safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements
- Conduct shift safety briefings and toolbox talks
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and company policies
- Investigate incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions; initiate corrective actions
Team Leadership
- Supervise, train, and motivate plant operators and laborers
- Assign tasks and ensure proper coverage throughout the shift
- Address performance issues, attendance, and employee concerns
- Support onboarding and ongoing training for new and existing employees
Quality & Housekeeping
- Ensure recyclable materials are properly sorted and contamination is minimized
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas
- Conduct routine inspections to ensure operational standards are met
Communication & Coordination
- Communicate shift performance, issues, and handovers to incoming supervisors
- Coordinate with maintenance, logistics, and management teams
- Serve as point of contact for emergencies during the shift
Qualifications & Skills Required
- 2+ years of experience in a recycling plant, manufacturing, or industrial environment - desired
- Prior supervisory or lead experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of plant safety practices
- Ability to operate or oversee operation of plant equipment

Pay: £38,000.00 per year
