As our business continues to expand, effective transport leadership has never been more important. Our Transport team plays a critical role in ensuring deliveries are completed safely, efficiently, and on time, while maintaining the highest standards of compliance, operational performance, and customer service.
We are currently seeking an experienced and motivated Transport Operations Manager to lead our Transport team. This is a hands-on management role responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operation of the transport function, managing driver resources and fleet compliance, supporting team performance and development, and ensuring the efficient delivery of products across our distribution network.
Working closely with drivers, operational managers, customers, and third-party providers, you will play a key role in maintaining service levels, ensuring compliance with transport legislation and company policies, managing people-related activities, and driving continuous improvement across the department. The successful candidate will be a confident leader, an excellent communicator, highly organised, and comfortable making decisions within a fast-paced logistics environment.

Purpose of Role
To be responsible for the Management of the day to day running of all aspects of the Transport department, deputise for the Transport Operations Manager, ensuring all aspects of the Transport department are run within the legal parameters of transport and Health and Safety legislation. To ensure the Transport Fleet meets operational standards, to ensure all routes are manned throughout holidays and sickness and to ensure all customer orders are delivered in full and efficiently at all times. To manage the communication between all departments where needed, including hauliers, to ensure the accuracy and efficiency of the distribution tasks required.
Key Role Accountabilities
- Must have a minimum of a Class 1 licence.
- Must hold or are working towards a Management CPC qualification.
- Must hold or are working towards ILM level 5 qualification.
- Must be conversant with Microsoft systems.
- Must be conversant with logistic made4net system.
- To deputise for the Transport Operations Manager.
- To ensure that the correct staff requirements are met daily.
- Ensure all drivers have work and arrange immediate cover for any absences.
- Ensure the return and process of all POD’S daily.
- To ensure the day-to-day road worthiness of the vehicles meets transport legislation and ensure any defects are repaired before vehicles go out.
- Ensure strict compliance with all Health and Safety and Food Hygiene Procedures.
- Conduct Staff Check-ins and performance reviews.
- Conduct Disciplinary Investigations.
- Conduct back to work interviews in the event of absence.
- Conduct the training and development of new drivers.
- Ensure all HGV drivers tachograph information is downloaded daily.
- Holiday approval for drivers and arranging appropriate cover.
- Log all accidents and complete appropriate forms and pass them on to the Insurance provider.
- Engage with Basco to arrange basket and wheel requirements for production needs.
- Ensure prompt and efficient basket returns to site.
- You may be required to undertake various other duties as may be reasonably required of you.
Management
- Ensure all staff members adhere to company procedures, including Health and Safety, Food Safety and Quality Policies.
- Ensure the team is comprehensively supporting activities with appropriate documentation and data input.
Communication
- Participate and contribute to the Operations Meetings.
- Communicate with the Managers on issues involving quality and hygiene.
- Effectively communicate to team member’s business developments, procedures and requirements and ensure they are clearly understood.
Training
- Ensure all drivers are trained in line with business standards.
- To undertake training to further knowledge and experience and/or according to industry and business needs.
Maintenance
- Ensure that any equipment that fails to produce the quality/hygiene standards is identified and maintained in line with company procedures.
- Ensure that all equipment settings adhere to company procedures.
Quality
- Ensure all products leaving the factory comply with the standards laid down by the company.
Hygiene
- Ensure the adherence to statutory regulations and legislation that affect the production of food.
- Complete all documentation required for the company hygiene procedures.
Cleanliness
- Ensuring that all working practices are in line with the company procedures.
- Monitor the cleanliness of the distribution area and vehicles.
Health & Safety
- Responsible for promoting company Health and Safety culture at all times by understanding the company Health and Safety policy and ensuring that the arrangements detailed within are implemented and maintained within their areas of responsibility.
- Ensure compliance with all company Health and Safety procedures.
- Ensure the adherence to Statuary Regulations and Legislation that affect the production of food.
Food Safety
- Ensure all activities in the area are carried out in accordance with Food Safety Procedures.
- Ensure high standards of housekeeping adopting the ‘clean as you go’ approach.
