We're Oakdene Services (1925) Ltd, a commercial litho printer based in Mallusk, and we're looking for an experienced Print Finisher to join our finishing department. This is a hands-on machine role: you'll be setting and running guillotines, folders and stitching/binding lines, taking jobs from the press through to a finished product that goes out the door right first time.
We need someone who can read a job spec, make their own decisions on set-up, and keep quality tight without being watched.
Key responsibilities
Cutting
- Set up and operate programmable guillotines, including building and editing cutting programmes
- Cut to sheet and finished sizes accurately, working to trim marks and allowing for creep and bleed
- Jog, load and handle stock safely, keeping square and free of marking
Folding
- Set and run buckle and combination folders across a range of fold schemes — half, roll, gate, cross, concertina
- Adjust for stock weight, grain direction and coating; score or crease where needed to prevent cracking
- Manage register and squareness across the run
Binding and stitching
- Set and run saddle stitchers, including feeder set-up, stitch position, wire depth and trimming
- Carry out perfect binding, drilling, wire and spiral work as required
- Collate, insert and hand-finish where the job calls for it
Quality and general
- Check work against the job bag, proof and sample throughout the run, not just at make-ready
- Minimise make-ready waste and record production data accurately
- Carry out daily machine checks, cleaning and first-line maintenance; report faults promptly
- Work to deadlines and flex across finishing processes when the schedule demands
- Follow all health and safety procedures, including guillotine operation, guarding, manual handling and PPE
Skills and experience
Essential
- Minimum 2 years' finishing experience in a commercial or trade litho environment
- Proven competence on guillotine, folder and stitcher — able to set up and run unsupervised
- Formal guillotine training/certification
- Good working knowledge of stocks: gsm, grain direction, coated and uncoated behaviour
- Understanding of imposition and folding schemes; able to work out a fold from a printed sheet
- Strong eye for print quality and finish
- Reliable, safety-conscious, and comfortable working to production deadlines
Desirable
- City & Guilds, BPIF or equivalent print qualification
- Experience on laminating, die-cutting or foiling
- Forklift or pallet truck licence
- Familiarity with a print MIS
