Parts Handler – HGV Workshop
Based at our Stoke-on-Trent depot, the Parts Handler plays an important role in keeping the HGV workshop operating efficiently. Working on a wide variety of truck makes and models, the role requires good organisation, attention to detail and the ability to identify and source the correct parts quickly.
This is not a standardised fleet environment, so a broad knowledge of HGV parts and components is highly beneficial.
Key responsibilities include:
Receiving, checking and storing incoming HGV parts and components.
Identifying parts accurately for different makes and models of HGV.
Ordering parts from suppliers and monitoring deliveries.
Liaising with technicians and the Workshop Manager to ensure the correct parts are available when required.
Issuing parts to technicians and recording stock movements.
Maintaining accurate stock records and carrying out regular stock checks.
Returning incorrect, damaged or surplus parts to suppliers.
Sourcing parts quickly to minimise vehicle downtime.
Building strong relationships with parts suppliers and negotiating where appropriate.
Keeping the parts area organised, clean and safe.
Ensuring warranty and core returns are processed correctly.
Assisting with workshop administration and maintaining accurate documentation.
Always following company health & safety procedures.
Ideal candidate
The successful candidate will ideally have experience within an HGV, commercial vehicle or automotive parts environment and have a good understanding of truck components.
The ability to work with multiple manufacturers and models is particularly important, along with good computer skills, strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills.
Most importantly, the Parts Handler needs to be proactive and resourceful—when a technician needs a part to get a vehicle back on the road, finding the right part quickly is a key part of the job.
