SENIOR QUANTITY SURVEYOR
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The Senior Quantity Surveyor is responsible for the commercial performance and financial success of multiple projects from contract award through to final account. The role provides commercial leadership, manages risk, protects profitability and supports the development of the wider commercial team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Procurement & Supply Chain
- Develop project procurement strategies and programmes.
- Lead subcontract procurement from enquiry through to appointment.
- Lead commercial negotiations and recommendations.
- Review and agree subcontract terms and conditions.
- Ensure procurement activity supports business and project objectives.
- Manage key supply chain relationships.
Cost Management & Reporting
- Take full commercial ownership of allocated projects.
- Monitor project performance against budgets and forecasts.
- Produce and review monthly Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs).
- Deliver accurate financial reporting and forecasting.
- Manage commercial risks and opportunities.
- Support strategic commercial planning with the Commercial Director.
Valuations & Client Accounts
- Prepare, submit and negotiate interim valuations.
- Manage change control and variation recovery.
- Negotiate and agree client final accounts.
- Ensure effective cash collection and working capital management.
- Maintain strong commercial relationships with clients and consultants.
Commercial Management
- Lead commercial management across multiple projects.
- Ensure contractual compliance and governance.
- Manage commercial disputes and complex contractual matters.
- Protect business profitability through proactive risk management.
- Drive commercial best practice throughout the organisation.
Project Delivery Support
- Attend site visits and key project meetings.
- Collaborate with operational teams on programme, procurement and commercial strategy.
- Review project risks and opportunities.
- Lead commercial close-out activities including final accounts, warranties, certifications and handover documentation.
Leadership & Development
- Mentor and develop Graduate and Junior Quantity Surveyors.
- Provide commercial leadership and guidance to project teams.
- Support recruitment, training and succession planning.
- Promote continuous improvement and commercial awareness throughout the business.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or equivalent.
- Significant Quantity Surveying experience within the construction industry.
- Experience managing residential and social housing projects.
- Strong knowledge of JCT contracts and commercial procedures.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong negotiation, leadership and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience mentoring and developing commercial professionals.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
