Meithrinfa Joio is looking for a reliable, caring and enthusiastic Nursery Nurse / School Run Driver to join our friendly team at outr SA1 and SA4 sites.
This is a varied dual-role position, combining working directly with children in our nursery setting with providing safe, reliable and punctual school and nursery transport.
The successful candidate will be passionate about working with children and committed to providing a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment where every child can thrive. You will also be responsible for transporting children safely to and from school and nursery, maintaining a high standard of safeguarding and ensuring that journeys are calm, safe and punctual.
We are looking for someone who is responsible, organised and confident, with excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with children, parents, carers, colleagues and school staff.
Welsh language skills are highly desirable, as Joio is committed to promoting and developing the Welsh language throughout our settings. We particularly welcome applications from fluent Welsh speakers and those who are enthusiastic about developing their Welsh.
Key ResponsibilitiesNursery Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality care, supervision and support to children in accordance with Joio's policies and procedures.
- Support children's learning and development through engaging, age-appropriate activities and experiences.
- Plan and participate in activities that support children's individual interests, development and learning.
- Follow children's individual routines and care needs, including mealtimes, sleep routines, personal care and transitions.
- Promote children's independence, confidence and wellbeing through positive and responsive interactions.
- Build warm, respectful and trusting relationships with children.
- Support an inclusive environment where every child is valued and their individual needs are recognised.
- Observe children's development and contribute to accurate records, observations and assessments.
- Communicate professionally with parents and carers regarding children's daily experiences, wellbeing and development.
- Work effectively as part of the nursery team and contribute positively to the day-to-day running of the setting.
- Help maintain a clean, safe, welcoming and well-organised nursery environment.
- Organise and maintain resources, toys and equipment.
- Follow all safeguarding, health and safety, infection control and childcare procedures.
- Promote positive behaviour through a calm, consistent and nurturing approach.
- Contribute to the development of the Welsh language within everyday nursery routines and interactions.
School Run Driver Responsibilities
- Safely transport children to and from school and nursery using your own vehicle.
- Ensure children are safely supervised during journeys and follow all required safeguarding procedures.
- Carry out school and nursery collections and drop-offs safely, punctually and reliably.
- Follow agreed transport routes, schedules and procedures.
- Ensure children are safely secured in the vehicle using appropriate safety equipment.
- Maintain a safe, calm and positive atmosphere during journeys.
- Communicate professionally with parents, carers, nursery staff and school staff.
- Report any concerns, incidents, delays or changes to the appropriate member of staff.
- Maintain your vehicle in a clean, safe and suitable condition for transporting children.
- Comply with all relevant road traffic legislation and Joio's transport and safeguarding procedures.
Safeguarding
Safeguarding is a fundamental part of this role. The successful candidate must be committed to protecting children's safety and welfare and must follow Joio's safeguarding policies and procedures at all times.
You will be expected to recognise and report safeguarding concerns appropriately and maintain confidentiality regarding children, families and the setting.
Essential Requirements
- Experience of working with children in a nursery, childcare, school or early years environment.
- A caring, patient and positive approach to working with children.
- Good understanding of children's development and wellbeing.
- Good understanding of safeguarding and child safety.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Reliable, punctual and well organised.
- Ability to follow policies, procedures and instructions.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Use of own vehicle is essential.
- A safe and responsible driving record.
- Ability to manage the demands of a dual nursery and driving role.
- Good spoken and written English.
- Willingness to support Joio's bilingual Welsh and English environment.
Qualifications
- A recognised Level 2 or Level 3 childcare qualification is desirable.
- Candidates without a childcare qualification may be considered where they have relevant experience and are willing to work towards an appropriate qualification.
- Paediatric First Aid training is desirable.
- Additional training in safeguarding, food hygiene, health and safety or other relevant areas would be advantageous.
Desirable
- Experience of transporting children or carrying out school runs.
- Experience working within a nursery or early years setting.
- Knowledge of the Welsh Government's early years framework and requirements.
- Welsh language skills, particularly confidence using Welsh with children.
- Experience supporting children's additional learning or developmental needs.
- A positive attitude towards continuous professional development and learning.
